PERPENDICULAR
PARADOX
Wallriding is the most
nonsensical facet of
modern skateboarding, an
art of mind over matter. It
seemingly defies the laws.
of physics. No one said,
"Boy, it would sure be fun
to force myself through a
90' transition instead of
lofting an air out of a
smoothly curved surface."
Yet our skater instinct
drives us to dominate the
vertical plane, with or
without transition. Jesse
Neuhaus throws his
expressive imagery against
the constraints of
regimented thought.
Combining square roots
skating and a modern
ollie-to-nose scrape
technique, he illustrates
symmetry via aggression.
POLE POSITION
Sick and tired of long lift lines and snottier-than-thou, momma's boy ski-types, John
Cardiel dive-bombed their ranks at the point where they are most vulnerable. The snow
slope terrorist wove between poles, underneath chairs and around neon-swathed
nouveau riche lift riders. It was a harrowing run, to be sure, and when it was over he
had glazed the tip of many an angry ski pole and his ears burned from their curses.
Resort police on horseback, snow sled and snow mobiles chased him all the way down
the face of Mt. Wahumi, but they never caught up to his trail of spraying fire and ice.

THE LONE WOLF
The lift had been closed for a
month. Tim Boyer needed to
feel the rush that only his
snowload could provide. As he
walked up the hill, he could
smell summer approaching.
What the hell, it's a long time
until November. Last run of
the season at Mt. Hood.
