PRODUCT PATROL LIFE SAVE
As you will see in this month's column, the industry is
spreading. While it is still centralized in California and the
Sunbelt states, it is truly metamorphosing into a country-
wide phenomena. This month's tour will start in Ohio where
we will look in on Alien Workshop, then go to Southern Cal-
STEVE CLAAR
ifornia where we'll stop at the Tracker camp, then north to
Frisco to see what is up with the gang at Spitfire, then
down the coast to Santa Cruz to look at the micro concave,
and our final destination is Georgia, where we'll hang with
the Syndicate posse. Stick around; it should be a good trip.
NEIL BLENDER
Alien Workshop
1280 McCook Ave.
Dayton, OH 45404
What do you get when you cross a
Midwestern state, some ripping
skaters and beings from outer space?
The answer is, of course, the Alien
Workshop. I guess these guys had
enough of mag politics and other California bullshit and moved the whole ball of wax to Dayton, Ohio. Well, anyway, they have sent me some of their lat-
est decks and they are excellent. The Neil Blender and Steve Claar are the best they make. Though these planks are quite similar, they are different
enough for me to tell ya about them. Neil's is 32" long, 9.5" wide, with 6" of nose, a 6.5" tail and a 14.25" wheelbase. The Claar is 32" long. 9.65" wide,
with 6.25" of nose, a 6.5" tail and the same 14.25" wheelbase. The concave was not the deepest or most thorough, but it was comfortable as well as ride-
able. Things to look for in the future are the Duane Pitri and Rob Drydek models as well as the Video "Memory Screen." Best of luck, guys.
AGGRO STREET TRACKS
Tracker Trucks, P.O. Box 398, Cardiff-By-The-Sea, CA 92007
Tracker has a new truck on the
market called the Aggro Street
Track. This truck is designed to
do the distance, even though
Tracker has taken it down to the
bare bones, light amundo.
Though it is light, I still found
myself tic-tacking when setting
up for some street action. But,
some people like that in a truck. They are a little larger than
160mm, which leads to more stability and traction. Hey, it light
trucks are the need, Trackers are guaranteed.
SMALL GUY SHAPE
Santa Cruz Skateboards, 4401 Soquel Dr., Soquel, CA 95073
I have good news
for all the little
skate hawgs out
there. Are you tired
of all the shapes
designed for big
dudes? Well, Santa Cruz Skateboards has your ticket. It's not a small guy
shape on a big guy concave, this is a small guy shape with a small guy
concave. Hey, it's about time they did it, because the smaller skater is the
most prominent out there. This Cruz micro is 31.5" long, 9.5" wide, with
6.5' of nose and tail. Hey all you little shredders, stand up and be counted.
LIL' SMOKIES
Spitfire Wheels, P.O. Box 884234, San Francisco, CA 94188
How hot are the new Spitfires?
Well, where there is smoke there
is fire. Lil' Smokies are here and,
to tell you straight, get a job, sell
the dog and get some bread; you
need to get down to a shop and
get some. Ninety-nine is the
durometer, 53.5mm is the size.
Small, fast and let's not be the last to find out. Get some and your eyes
will water and your ears will bleed. These are the wheels, it is decreed.
WORM
Syndicate, Box 3, Stone Mountain, GA 30086
Next stop Geor-
gia, where Don
Hillsman runs a
company called
Syndicate. His
boards are
more along the
lines of a classic shape, with a wider tail and rounded nose.
When I rode this board, I found it was a little on the heavy side.
Still, it lasted a long time and it fiexed just the right amount. At
32.5" long, 9.75" wide, with 6.5" of nose, and a little smaller 6.35"
tail, it was a good choice in the all-around department. It has a
flat tail and flat nose, which are right for these ollie times.
Last notes for some Think decks that came my way right at press time. No photo, just some quick num-
bers. Missing Children: 32.5" long, 9.5" wide, with 6" of nose, a 6.5" tail and a 14.25" wheelbase. Thinker:
32.75" long, 9.75" wide, with 6.5" of nose, a 6.5" tail and a 14" wheelbase. Too hot to handle and too quick
to photograph. Well, that is all for this month's trip through the vast land that we call home. Bye. Jake
Phelps, c/o Thrasher Magazine, P.O. Box 884570, San Francisco, CA 94188-4570.
