GET A GRIP
I'm not going to ask you a lame, idi
otic, retarded question. My question is
what color griptape works best and
lasts the longest? My griptape is old,
and my one-and-a-half-foot ollies
have been cut in half. Please help.
Dr. Pepper M.D.
Rapid City, SD
Neon pink and green griptape
may look cool to some people, but
it only works if you change it every
half-hour. Also, the silicate mixture
in colored and clear griptape is not
as granular as black, and therefore
less grippy. Black tape lasts long
and grips best. When was the last
time you saw pink sanding discs?
OVER THE RAINBOW
My dream is to one day turn pro, but
my friends put me down about it and
laugh at me. My parents aren't too
supportive either. Should I give up my
dream of being the next Hawk or
McGill, or should I keep skating for it?
Confused
Birmingham, AL
Don't ever give up your dream.
Always be proud of who you are,
whether you get there or not. The
beauty of skating is that it's fun no
matter how good you are. It takes
years of practice, dedication, luck
and a happening place to skate to
become pro. Dreams don't come
easy, but if you stick with it, they
can come true.
DIRT AND DESOLATION
I live twenty miles from the only
place to skate. My backyard, front
the driveway. Otherwise, you'll just
have to go out and look real hard
for some skateable terrain.
EXPANSION PLANS

whelming for my puny proportions.

dermis, and a bench-to-curb situated.
on a good-sized platform. (Here)
comes the big "but".) But it's not wide
enough. Can you share some per
sonal wisdom with me? After all, I
don't want to Mickey Mouse it and
feel like a schmuck in the process.
Thanx
Joe Shaw

Width is the ruling factor between
a good ramp and a frustrating one.
Wide is good. Wider is better.
Wood is very easy to work with.
Don't be afraid to be rough with it.
If you have the workspace, build an
additional ramp, then before you
ply it, have some friends help
move it next to the first ramp and
screw them together. Then when
you ply it, overlap the ply and
Masonite to smooth out the seams.
If you screw up, don't worry; it can
be fixed.
THE TRUTH ABOUT LINT
Pocket lint, what is it and where
does it come from?
Alfredo Peralta
Is it really pocket lint or pocket
debris? Lint develops in your
pocket, and debris is material in-

skate on it. Does that tell you some-
thing? What can I do? I don't have
money to build a halfpipe.
Orange, the skater from hell
Slick Quincy, CA
Dude, you're hating life. There
are two ways to acquire a skate
spot, find one or build one. Either

build a ramp, or get dad to pave

with lint-infested hot air. The air
goes through the pocket, but the
lint doesn't, so the pocket acts like
a lint filter. Now you can go to
sleep at night. -Dr. Rick Blackhart
