BOARD WITH THE WORLD
Burton Video
Burton's latest video, Board
With The World, is a team effort
and promotion in disguise, featur
Ing ripping footage of exotic spots
and ideal conditions. The action
begins with Craig Kelly busting a
speedy line between the legs of a
great statue of Stalin in the
USSR. It continues with the boys
getting snowmobile tows to
streetboarding off-the-lips and
spine air transfers over A-frame
chalets in Canada and continues
with insane powder-filled runs
through tree tops. A soundtrack
with Joe Satriani cranks through
snow stops in Vancouver B.C.
and Snow Summit powder near
LA, autograph sessions in
Japan. St. Moritz vertical action
and competition
pressure at the
Breckenridge World's. Craig is
joined by able Burtonoors Je
Brushle, Keith Wallace, Jean
Nerva, Jason Ford and Jacob
Best. Kelly's fluid style and long,
fast downhill
rail-grabbing
carves are a
study in fun and
offset the in-
verted and aeri-
al flipe nicely.
Board With The
World features
excellent video
quality, but
some of the
close-up shots
are so topsy turvy that you almost
have to look away. The video also
contains a short film, "Pachama
ma, featuring Jean Nerva and
Peter Bauer sliding the mountains
of Argentina. Il Craig and crew

shadowy, windswept remote ter-
rain will have you packing for your
own untracked snow adventure.
SNOWBOARDERS IN EXILE
Fall Line Films
Once the commercials, credits
and logos stop blocking the
screen, Exile gets down to the
business of showcasing ripping
boarding in prime locales. The
main problem with Exiles is it's
100 self-conscious about the
snowboarder image. The narrator
blabs about how different snow-
boarders are individuals, radi-
cals on the edge, devil-may-care
bad cats who blow away skiers
and onlookers. One shot of Dami-
an Sanders drifting a long 360°
board-grabbing launch and land-
ing sixty yards down the hill says
the same thing. Damian is joined
by Tahoe buds Chris Roach,
Dave Seaone, Tom Burt, Jean
Higgins and Stove Graham, and
this crew has no problem con-
vincing you they are nuts. High-
lights include: wall assaults on a
huge quarter pipe at Blackcomb;
Steve Graham's double back
flips: Damian's back country jump

NEW KIDS ON THE TWOCK
Faline Films
This is definitely the most skate-
influenced video of the bunch. It
features crossover footage of
Noah Salasnek, Monty Roach,
Jon Baiocchi, Aaron Vincent and
Andy Hetzel, among others.
There are plenty
of railsides on
logs over creeks
and channels,
ice ridges, cor-
nices and even
trees. Skate
moves like indy
pokes, bone airs,
slappies and
everything-to-
fakie show up
constantly. Flash
points include

ping Donner,
Mike Estes

and Noah's all-
terrain wheel and
rail antics and
fast mogul runs.

Pinball wizards stay on
the lookout for the new

Bugs Bunny's Birthday

Also new on the stool ball

Cattle Call for Skate Extras
by H.W. Moss
Twenty-two-year-old Canadian filmmaker Rudy
Rupak needs nearly 2,000 skate rats to act as
extras for scenes in his new $5 milion film,
"Boardlords, which begins shooting in Montreal.
this July
Tax breaks mean I have to hire mostly Cana-
dians," said Rupak recently, "but if someone can
do tricks I can't find anyone in Canada to dupli-
cate, we can make exceptions."
Rupak will be hiring 1,700 extras to ride, hold
up their boards with protest signs, and to block
bridges, highways, main streets, and airport run-
ways. The story takes place in a small city where
a slime-ball mayor decides to outlaw skateboard-
ing so he can get votes.
According to Rupak, this is going to be an
authentic skateboard movie.
"Boardlords' is a story all skaters are familiar
with," he said. "It's about skater harassment.
When they can't get the law changed, they take
this town to the ground."
Rupak said he has seen "Gleaming the Cube"
(1989), a better-than-average detective story
starring Christian Slater as a skateboard ace,
and "Thrashin'," which should have won the
1986 turkey-of-the-year award, and did not think
highly of either flick. "They were so lame," said
Rupak. This is a real movie,"
"Boardlords stars Tony Peck, who recently
married Cheryl Tiegs and is the son of Gregory
Peck, and Marisa Para, who plays Lace in Amer-
ican Gladiators. Brian Patrick, who's been get
ting lots of teen mag press lately, will provide the
love interest. Pro skaters are being interviewed
now for parts in the film.
Skaters who get the job will earn ACTRA
scale, which is $85 (Canadian) a day. Shooting
is scheduled to last six weeks. Send a letter of
introduction, a photo, and a description of your
tricks to Rupak at 225 E. Roy Road, Suite 204,
Montreal, Canada H2W 1M5.
