            WATANABE
KT caught up with George at the
San Jose Mini-Ramp contest
where, once again, he got
burned by the judges. Don't
worry, though, George will get
his due soon.
George, what's your favorite
street spot these days?
Curb Creature, this place in Utah
on top of a parking terrace in Salt
Lake City. That's my new quarters.
I moved there with my parents.
Do you like Utah?
Yeah, I do. It was like a culture
shock moving to Utah. A lot of
people look at me funny and stuff
because I'm brown and bald, but
I'm used to it already, so it doesn't
matter. At first, I didn't think it
was cool, then snowboarding
came up and I'm stoked on that. I
just started this year. Most of the
killer snow terrain is 20 minutes
outside of Salt Lake City.
Are you saying that Salt Lake City
blows away LA?
Yeop. in the summer.
Have you taken Mom's car out on
the Salt Flats yet?
Nah.
What kind of skating are you
practicing lately?
Lately, I've been skating a lot of
vert at the skatepark in Salt Lake
and trying to pull a McTwist. I'm
getting close. I like to do ollie airs
and disasters, aggressive tricks.
What about in the street?
I've been doing downhill speed
runs. going real fast, as fast as I
can go. That's what the college is
like. It's way up in the hills and
there are sidewalks and grass
trails you can take. It's about three
miles long.
Any guys you like to watch?
I like to watch Danny Way skate.
He's a nutty ole kid, man.
How do you like being pro?
I liked the Del Mar street contest.
Santa Cruz was kinda chintzy but
it was fun. San Francisco was fun.
and this one (San Jose) is pretty
killer right here. I just went out
there and skated, tried to stay on
and skate fast.
Do you think you have gotten
burned at contests?
Sometimes I have, but it a lot of
people get burned at contests, so
that doesn't even matter.
What about the skating scene?
I think there are a lot of good peo-
ple right now. A lot of people are
getting braver. The young kids are
getting better a lot quicker.
How much do you skate?
As much as I can.
Any advice?
Keep skating as long as you're
having fun. I
