MUSINGS ABOUT RED CURBS AND MINI-RAMPS
I've been watching a lot of skate video lately. Part of the reason is
the rush of skate video that came out in the last months of 1990.

More importantly, it's the only way to keep one's sanity when every- RECEPTIONIST: Jonah Guzzi
one around you is talking about war. Right now, the only good news
is no news. All the major radio and TV networks are packed with
analysts and speculators. Reporters look grim but hopeful. Anchor-
people report the latest figures as if they were reporting the score of
a football game. Does anybody really know what's going on? Do our
leaders know what they're doing, or care? When the real news, the
truth, hits us, it's going to be ugly and there is nothing you will hear
on TV or radio that can prepare you for that. So, if you have to watch
the tube, pop in a skate video.

There's one thing that sticks in the brain after several hours of
watching these new skate videos: red curbs and mini-ramps. Curbs
are the choice of the new generation, and there's enough around to
last into the next millennium. When one gets busted you just say,
"Next." Have you heard the one about the kid who ground a curb so
much that he wore a wheelchair ramp right out of it? Mini-FAX: (415) 822-8359. Printed in U.S.A. Distributed in USA. Canada
ramps-there's a phenomenon worth studying. If you are a modern
skater and don't have a mini in your backyard or easy access to one,
well, you don't deserve one. Work on it. What do minis and curbs
have in common? It seems the skaters who rip one medium are also
adept at the other. That's all.
