            PRODUCT PATROL
Slick sticks,
trick trucks
and cool shoes.
It seems trivial sometimes to
worry and talk about skateboards
when the sky is falling. Things
must go on, but I truly feel ner-
vous about the future. To those
unsung skating heroes in the
Persian Gulf, I wish you well, and
get home in one piece, because
there are a lot of spots waiting
for you. Note: In the February
issue I neglected to list the
specs for the Toxic decks. To be
fair, here they are: The Crabb
deck is 31½" long, 9%" wide, with
a 6½" tail, 4%" or 5%" of nose and
a 14%" or 15%" wheelbase. The
Fillion deck is 31%" long, 10"
wide, with a 6½" tail, 5½" or 5%"
of nose and a 14%" or 15" wheel-
base. Each board comes in three
sizes. Hey, don't listen to me,
though. Check 'em out for your
self.
NTA CRUZ
Tom Knox "Ever Slick"
Santa Cruz Skateboards, 4401 Soquel Dr., Soquel, CA 95073
Santa Cruz has a new idea that is really unique. It is a
thin, hard plastic skin on the bottom of this Tom Knox
board. While it does slide evenly and on most surfaces,
it is harder to do some of the board-to-Smith tricks that
are so popular these days. It reminds me of their snow-
boards, and it looks tuff, too. This new Knox is 32"
long, 9% wide, with 6½" of tail, a 6" nose and a 14"
wheelbase. I have heard that his P.B.T. skin is also
available on the Eric Dressen model. For those of you
who have to have the newest or coolest, this is the cue
for you. It costs a little extra, but for the price of a set
of rails, it will last while others die.
V-8 Trucks
Venture Trucks, P.O.
Box 883942, S.F., CA
94188-3942
I said last month
that I would let you know about the new Venture
V-8 trucks. Well, they are the best Ventures yet.
Natas Shoes
Etnies, Beach Center Station,
P.O. Box 78, Huntington Beach,
CA 92648-0078
I get to check
out lots of shoes,
and the most
comfortable pair lately are
ETNIES
the new Etnies. The Natas shoe has been
redesigned for maximum comfort and
durability. It is remarkably light and flexible
and it has a shock heel pad for
those super bails. I am sure that
they are costly, but they last
and last.
26 THRASHER MAGAZINE
Most people who have ever tried Ventures say
something like, "How can I ride those trucks
when they don't turn?" Well, skeptics take note,
these trucks turn. They're available in 165mm
and 159mm, so they fit all types of tops. It's not
just a truck, it's a Venture.
Enigma Shoe
Airwalk, P.O. Box 227-9000, Carlsbad, CA 92008
The Enigma series is in stores as we
speak. Airwalk's ultimate crossover
skate shoe is super stylish and
comfortable. This model
doesn't have any of the extra
bulky ollie protection
flaps, but they are a
more affordable top
quality skate shoe.
Airwalk is thinking
about your
feet right
now.
Lance Mountain
Powell-Peralta, 30 S. La Patera Lane,
Goleta, CA 93117
I made a few phone calls and
ended up on the receiving end of a
box from Powell and Peralta. As
usual, it contained some wheels
and decks, one of which was a
Lance Mountain. Let me start by
saying that I love this new
Mountain. It was light as well as
functional. Powell and Peralta have
a simple yet comfortable concave. I
picked this one up and to be hon-
est, I haven't put it down. Lance
checks in at 32% by 9% with the
preferred 6% nose and tail and a
14% wheelbase. Hey, guys, keep it
coming and thanks for the shorts.
Mike Youssefpour
Santa Cruz Skateboards, 4401 Soquel Dr.,
Soquel, CA 95073
Another new deck from
Santa Cruz is the Mike
Youssefpour Cruz Missile
Two high altitude model.
This is one of the best
Ishapes Santa Cruz makes.
It's long and strong with no
funky bends or cuts. I have
seen Mike ride, and if this
piece of wood can bring him
down from the heavens in
one piece, it is safe to say
that it will last for you.
Mike's numbers are 32", 9%",
5½" or 6" of nose, 6½" tail
and either a 14½" or 15"
wheelbase.
As we go forward into the future, let us pause and think
about skating. Be glad if you can go outside and see the
street and not sand. Write to: Jake Phelps, c/o Thrasher
