BL'AST!
REVOLTING COCKS
This high-energy hardcore outfit is a Santa Cruz tradition. BLAST has been
slam jammin' since 1983, releasing two blazing albums and several
scorching singles on the SST label. The recent Santa Cruz video, A Reason
for Living, and the latest Thrasher Skate Rock tape, Pawns of the
Apocalypse, both feature songs by this tempestuous group of NorCal surt/
skate tatooed madmen. As of late, stoking new bass player John Schuller's
precision funky thumb has been melding into Mike Neider's Block Flag-styled
screaming guitar to blast BLAST toward an ultra-
bitchin' planetary plateau. Drummer Bil
Torgensen credits group creativity as the prime
mover, "It's funny cause we're all so diverse.
Right now what's really influencing us is our own
thoughts and minds."-Ray Stevens III
Sacred Reich
"There's no difference between us and our fans except that
we have guitars and drums," states Phil Rind, bassist and
vocalist of Sacred Reich. This attitude, combined with soci-
ally aware lyrics and some of the heaviest music you're
bound to hear, has made Sacred Reich a household word
among thrash fans worldwide. With two strong LPs (Ignor-
ance and The American Way), an EP, (Surf Nicaragua),
several trips to Europe and a few jaunts around the states
behind them, the future looks good for this Phoenix four-
piece. "Hopefully people will find us a positive thing and
like us more and more," Phil says, "but we'll never be rock
stars or millionaires-it's not in our cards."-Mike Lavella

ZOUNDS
When Chicago psychotic Al Jourgensen
isn't sticking a hot bayonet through the
skulls of naive listeners in his band
Ministry, he and partner Paul Barker, along
with Belgian maniae Luc Van Acker and
Scottish serial killer Chris Connelly,
transform into the Revolting Cocks
Originally intended as a studio project
between Jourgensen, Van Acker and
Front 242 techno-wimp Richard 23, the
whole plan went brilliantly out of control.
Minus Richard 23, the Cocks are doing
their damnedest to make sure that their
brand of "combat disco" annihilates the
states. RevCo's latest Wax Trax album,
Beers, Steers and Queers, is a pulsing
sleazy slab of tension and migraine
headache beats. YEE-HA!-Mike Lavella
From Austin comes a melted urethane
sandwich called the Skatenigs. Stopping by
to wreck the party with crunching junky
fury and pure punch-rock power, these
terrific Texans jam gears from rap grooves
to thrashing moves, 0 to 90 in no time
flat. Their upcoming EP produced by
Revolting Cock Al Jourgensen, features a
killin' version of the late, great Big Boys'
Damage #43 (The Big Picture] Still, for
all their clowning around, the "Nigs take a
big stand against racism and have been
known to take on dim bouncers many
times their size who try to eject fans
dancing at their shows. Flip, fly and dont
stop to ask why!-Mike Lavella

The White Kaps don't want to preach or
hate, they just want to celebrate. These
rambunctious partiers also like to skate,
which ain't too hard to figure, considering
the lightning speed and ferocity of their
tunes. The only Kap that doesn't skate is
vocalist K.C. Maddox, who quit boarding
because he was getting too banged up.
"These guys have been skating since they
were kids," he says. "They used to like to
watch me 'cuz I always slammed, but that
was the extent of my skating."
At least these punkers don't have to rely on
gig money to pay their rent, all members
actually have real jobs. This gives them
plenty o' freedom to crank it out at wild
parties like the one where they opened for
Thelonious Monster. "People were even
slammin' in the driveway," says Briggs. So,
if the keg is cold, and the moon is right, you
might still be able to catch the White Kaps at
a party near you. Just keep in mind what
Maddox says, this band is serious. They're
serious about having fun.
