BARE ROOTS
In the high-tech, ultra-
hyped world of modern
skating, we often ignore
the fact that our sport
has humble beginnings.
Long before the first
precision-ground neon
urethane wheel was
popped off custom-cut
masonite, little boys
(like Scott Starr, right)
jumped and fidgeted at
back doors, bristling for
the moment their
grandpas would lead
them on rolling, rosy-
cheeked treks across
rough suburban
cement.
So, next time you
execute that woolly
pogoroonie-to-revert,
don't forget the little boy
inside of you that just
lives to coast... and
don't forget to thank
your grandpa
tow.
