NSA Backyard Series for 1990 has been
declared a raging success. Watch for our

NSA AM DAMAGE
The NSA amateur season is in full effect with
everybody's favorite skate dad. Frank Hawk, at
the helm. However, the Southwest District
qualifier experienced a minor setback when the
large vart ramp at Tower Skatepark in Phoenix
was burnt down by a local gang. Other sources
have said the torching was done by local skaters
who were dissatished with progress on the new
ramp. Still others say it was the local pyro. When
the temperature reaches 115 in Phoenix, people
get loopy.

On the organizational front, first there was
CASL California Amateur Skateboard League
and now you can add FASL (Florida), TASL
(Texas), OASA (Oregon) and, yes HASL (Heart
of America Skateboard League), to your list with
other state associations lining up as fast as the
issues come out. All these groups report healthy
1990 summer programs and successful contest
schedules if you want to compete, have fun and
meet other skaters, etc. this is the route to go.

With the first year of contests going so well the
skate scene in Florida has blown wide open.
Land for a new park in Lee County is being
cleared that will be the permanent home for the
St. Pete pro finals mega ramp. Tim Payne will do
the installation. Other FASL projects include
working with police in Ft. Myers to make peace
between them and the skaters and a new trend
is developing where mini-malls want to throw
parking lot streetstyles.

Another group called the Pro Skate League had
a modest start up event in Reno, Nevada. Ace
skate mom and CASL queen, Sonja Catalano
has her name associated with this group.
Christian Hosoi has now cleaned house in both
World Skate Tour events to the the tune of Sk
per event. The tour, headed by a group of
unknown sports and entertainment execs, has
done the arena thing in Dallas, Kansas City and
at press time were headed for St. Louis.
