it. There was also a lot of confusion because standing on their chairs if he made that one.
of the MTV crew on hand.
Yeah John, meanwhile Tom Cozens, presi-
dent of the NSA, just came by with a mop
in his hands. We'll try and fill you in on that
later. We'd also like to talk about the little pur-
ple haired, cream-colored girl hanging out
with Mike Rector, but we can't. As far as the
skating goes, it's definitely easier to criticize
these guys than it is to say anything good
about them, isn't it John?
Well, we're losers Randy, and that's why.
These guys are really skating their asses off.
How's that?
THE FINALS
We are back and going into the finals. The
ten-cut is as follows: Justin Girard 10th, Colby
Carter 9th, Ron Chatman 8th, Tom Knox 7th.
Steve Caballero 6th, Jason Lee 5th, Tony
Hawk 4th, Mark Gonz 3rd, Christian 2nd, and
your top man right now is Dressen. Randy?
Thank you John, now we have Justin
Girard out there and he's definitely got the
longest wallet chain in skateboard-
ing. AAAGHHH! There goes what's his
name from MTV, man, the friggin'
headbanger.
Settle down Randy, that's Adam Curry, and
he's got a hip pack on, and hairspray.
Yeah, MTV countdown. I gotta talk to that
dude.
Justin's doing a lot of flatland footwork
even though he's sporting some kind of ankle
brace. There's a stale grab ollie, ollie-to-
lipslide-to-revert, backside lipslide transfer
over the spine, ollie-to-tail, 360° slide 'n roll,
ollie tail grab, fakie air, and he closes with
some fancy footwork. Back to you, John.
Okay, here's Colby Carter: 180° ollie on the
vert wall, fakie over the spine, ollie-to-
disaster. He's using the course like a street
skater should and skating to Aerosmith.
John, I think we need to talk to Adam Curry
and find out what place Aerosmith is in right
now. Look at Adam over there all stylee in
his tight jeans and Nike Boots.
Ron Chatman is next with a big ollie-to-
fakie off the hip, backside disaster, 50/50
down the handrail to fakie, a shove it on the
bank, some flatland flippity-dippity. Now he's
getting some big time speed. What do you
think Randy?
I think he's going to go back to Adam
Curry's dressing room, put on a little make-
up, come back out and bust some big ollies.
There he goes-ollie to indy air over the
island. Good job, Ron.
Tom Knox, nice trick there, ollie blunt-to-
pivot-to-tail on the quarter-pipe, then he falls
on an ollie-to-tailslide down the handrail. He
was going so fast people would have been
Top to Bottom: Jason no problem, I've got eyes in
the back of my helmet' Lee hits the rail with a 180°
ollie-to-backwards grind. A vert wall ollie-to-transition
gives the impatient Gonz an express route back to
Earth. Colby Carter gets hip with a 180° ole-to-lakie
Now a frontside ollie-to-50/50 down the rail,
manual rollout over the sidewalk, ollie-to-tail
grab, 360° on the vert, backside ollie over
the hip and, YEAH, ollie blunt-to-pivot-to-
backside disaster, great stuff but Tom had a
fall there. Randy?
Hold it John, there's a big fight brewing
over here. Adam Curry's acting cool but his
buddy's really pushing this Samoan guy.
He's going to get worked here in about two
seconds. Okay, there's the first push. There's
going to be a fight between Curry's posse
and the Hawaiian security force. John, this
is where New York meets Hawaii, and Hawaii
is going to win because New York is stupid.
Here's Jason Lee. Jason, what do you
think? Heavy vibes here.
Well, there are heavy vibes everywhere
you go.
Okay, and here come all the skaters in the
contest, spectators, everybody. Suddenly
skateboarding means nothing in the face of
a fight. But there is no fight. It was pretty
much a total fake-out. The New York guy
wimped out. It was basically just a couple
of people bumping each other.
Well, that's over with. Stevie Caballero's
out on the floor with a backside ollie grab,
then grinds through the quarter-pipe, front-
side ollie over the hip, frontside slide 'n roll-
almost fell there. Ollie blunt-to-fakie rock on
the hip curb. Lipslide on the sidewalk, 50/50
grind, backside 180° ollie air over the hip,
tailslide over the spine. Now he disappears-
and comes back out at speed with a big ollie
grab over the whole center and finishes with
a 360° backside ollie on the bank. Yeah
Stevallero. It's to you, Randy.
Jason Lee now with a big mute grab over
the center hip and an amazing ollie blunt-to-
backside disaster-to-revert off the quarter-
pipe. The most amazing trick of the whole
contest, but he falls on a frontside rock 'n
roll on the spine. Now a backside ollie kickflip
over the hip, some shove-it stuff on the flat,
slider-to-Smith grind, ollie 180°-to-50/50
down the handrail and closes with an ollie
impossible or something. Jason would be
leading if not for that fall, John..
I think you're so right, Randy. Tony Hawk
now, a 360° stale fish over the hip, now a 180°
ollie over the hip, frontside slide 'n roll
lipslide-to-Smith grind over the spine. OOHH,
ollie-to-frontside rock 'n roll on the park.
bench. OOHH, ollie from the hip-to-frontside
lipslide down the handrail, now an ollie
shove-it, ollie blunt, slide 'n roll-to-fakie and,
oh my God, ollie blunt transfer over the spine.
Totally rad. And Tony does a streetplant after
his run is over just to vibe everybody. Randy?
Okay, Beatle Rosecrans is getting ejected
for throwing stickers while the Gonz falls on
his first trick, a vert wall ollie. But he comes
back with a 180°-to-50/50 down the handrail,

wall king C. stay solid with each other. Below: Penultimate oilie popper Matt shows us his plaque.
big ollie over the hip, ollie-to-fakie and a front-
side jump ramp air, then Mark goes for some
crazy frontside McTwist after his run and eats
it. How 'bout that Gonz, John?
Crazy, man, crazy. Here's Christian Hosoi
now, definitely a favorite of the crowd here.
He's hauling ass toward the vert, a huge rock
walk then a railslide at mega speed, nice
ollie-to-lien air grab, frontside grind at full
speed now, nose bone indy over the hip, big
layback on the vert, tailslide over the spine,
frontside slide 'n roll, ollie-to-tail on the park-
ing block, now 180° ollie off the driveway and
sliding to a halt in Adam Curry's dressing
room. Now he reappears hauling ass and
vaults a huge ollie-to-tail grab
over the whole centerpiece
and into a manual rollout
around the quarter-pipe deck,
slider down the rail, ollie-to-
grind on the spine and a nose
wheelie to the end of his run.
Christian totally ripped on that
run, Randy.
He'll be followed by Eric
Dressen, John, and if there's
anybody here who can take
Christian down right now it's Eric the Red.
Here he comes doing about 90 mph into a
large frontside on the vert, hits a slider at
speed, big ollie tail grab over the hip, front-
side through the quad pipe, now attacks the
center stage with a frontside 180° air over
the hip, ollie-to-tail on the driveway park
bench, backside ollie-to-50/50 down the
handrail, ollie-to-lien air grabbing behind the
foot, launches air-to-tail over the center now
throws a frontside ollie-to-50/50 down the
handrail, ollie-to-tail on the spine, frontside
grind on the OJ quarter-pipe, and WHOOAA,
frontside ollie over the hip and smack into
a tailslide down the rail, a dangerous and
radical approach. Eric just an-
nihilated that handrail, John.
Boy Howdy. Yeah Randy,
there's no doubt the judges will
put him in the lead after that
run. Eric is being congratu
lated by his friends and fans.
His face is red with excitement.
Eric Dressen has come back
to be the skater to beat here
