ALL JAKE AFTER THE QUAKE
When I first heard of the earth-
quake. I thought to myself, "What a
horrible thing to have happened.
Five minutes later I was flipping
through a Thrasher mag and sud-
denly I remembered that you guys
are in S.F. I decided to write and tell
you that I am very concerned. I hope
nobody from Thrasher or their
families were injured or killed. If any
did. I am very sorry. May the best of
luck be with you all

RAIN ON MY PARADE
I attend the school of Kremlin-
Hillsdale, Oklahoma. Friday, Oct. 6,
1989, I was held hostage by my third
grade teacher for attempting to ride
my skateboard in the homecoming
parade. We students were told that
we could decorate and ride anything
in the parade as long as it didn't
have a motor. There were bikes,
tricycles, scooters, even horses! But
Mrs. B. would not let me participate
and I had to sit in the back of her
pickup with her. As you can see,
skate discrimination is everywhere.

This is in response to the article
you did on David Barnes and his
ideals in the Nov. '89 issue. I have
been living in this country, in
Chester, PA, a month and a
half now, and one of the
painful shocks of this
move is the fact that
this country is so
dependent on cars.

Japan, like all
cities in that
country, was con-
venient to get around in; trains went
everywhere, and bikes were faster
than cars because of all the traffic
lights. Right now I feel stranded. I
would love to get out and see this
great country but it's not easy. Why
do people ride in cars so much?
Cars are dangerous (how many pec-
ple do they kill each year?), they are
destructive to the Earth, gas will run
out sometime, they are expensive.
and it's unhealthy to sit there with
no real physical movement. Skating
is the best way to go. Plus, it's fun
I agree with David entirely I'm
glad he's doing something about it.
David, how about some of those
decals out here? I feel the same way
as you do. Anybody else?

COMMUNITY UNITY
How can I get involved in an
organization in our community for
skaters? We live in a nice suburb
and pay enough for rent, taxes, etc.
It just gripes me when these kids
can't even skateboard in their own
neighborhood. If they're even seen
on a skateboard they're given the
Evil Eye It's mainly people who do
not have kids of their own and senior
citizens. It scares me and I don't
think they have the right to do this
I have raised my son to respect
others and their property and if he
goes against these rules, I am the
one who should discipline him. I
would just like to know our rights and
try to get some local parental in-
volvement and find a place where
the kids can go to skate. I'm thankful
they're involved in this form of ex-
ercise which is an art when you think
about it. I worry about them getting.
hurt at times, but it's good to know
their interest is in skateboarding and
not in violence, drugs and other bad
things in this world today.

Well, there probably isn't an organi
zation in your area, but it sounds like
you've got the right attitude to start
one. See if you can get help from the
YMCA, Boy's Club, city counell, Boy
Scouts, etc. T-ed

I don't know if you'd call this your
basic harassment, but I'm a black
skater and I'm getting a lot of flack
from my black friends, and event
black people I don't know. It really
pisses me off because the world is
