ON BOARD
MI, for uncovering this fiendish plot):
"Thrasher was spoiled rotten as a child by
his nice middle class parents in their nice
middle class neighborhood. He was never
disciplined, since his parents believed this
would 'stifle energies he might need later in
life.' Thrasher was never denied anything he
asked for, even though everything he asked
for wound up causing some type of unex-
plainable destruction or minor disaster..."
And for this month's mass-media abuse
award, our heartfelt congratulations go out
to Lisa Queen of the Newmarket-Aurora Era-
Banner. Ms. Queen's epic article, "Skate-
boarding Creating Havoc at Town Plaza," is
the finest piece of hysterical paranoiac anti-
skate abuse that we've read in quite some
time. The article lists the terrors of countless
right-thinking shoppers from Ontario,
Canada. Foremost on the list is the "ongoing
problem" of skateboarders. Brian Worth,
shopping center property manager is quoted
as saying, "This stuff happens in broad
daylight. It doesn't have to be in the dark and
at night and in a back corner. It is unbridled
138
arrogance." Thousands of dollars of alleged
property damage are attributed to skaters
and "other youths." Fortunately, Mayor John
West is looking into creating a free public
skatepark. Unfortunately, Ms. Queen failed
to quote a single skater in this malicious
diatribe. Perhaps contact with the "unruly"
youths of her story might clue her in to the
existence of alternative explanations.
In Canfield, Ohio, fourteen-year-old skater
Bic Ulrich addressed the City Council on
youth rights and the general skate scene.
Surprisingly enough, the council was so
moved by Bic's remarks that it decided to
drop a proposed anti-skate ordinance.
Another of Ulrich's friends, Jason Withers,

Can it be true that when ripped open a cer-
tain manu's skate shoes sport a printed
Budweiser pattern? Is this the prelude to a
line of Street-Spud-Ware? Was there an out-
break of street-spud-shoeitis in Bismark,
North Dakota?

has been quite visible lately in a series of na-
tional TV ads where he voraciously con-
sumes an assortment of high digit items.
Counter-revolutionary sports addict Keith
Cochrane has expressed his antipathy
toward more humane contact sports such as
baseball by forming a paint gun warfare
league. Rumor has it that a recent league
sanctioned welt-raising shootout included
names such as Way, Schultes, Shrewgy.
Stacy, etc.
SAY WHAT?
Question Twenty: Has graphic ace/guitar
face Tumbleweed actually checked into a
detox ward as rumored, or is he merely
avoiding the plebian search for an apart
ment? Are T-Weed and his close comical
associates Ken Jones and L. E. Coleman
actually conspiring to provide art direction
for a hush-hush upcoming TV show?
Is Micke Reyes an up-and-coming porn
star as rumored? Loose talk has him direc-
ting, filming and starring in a very blue movie.
Was said perverted film done with the Team
SMA vid camera? Are tales true which place
Reyes in Toronto, Canada, for an extra week
of "intensive female training" with several
bought buxom babes? Will Micke soon be
sponsored by the Mitchell Brothers?
Was Noah Peacock the latest victim
(broken leg) of Jake Phelps' ramp. The
Widow Maker?
THE SPORTING LIFE
During the ultra-intense National League
Playoff series, did shipping meister Jake
Phelps actually K.O. a belligerent Cubs fan
for cutting ahead of him in a beer line? Was
major media mover Ed Riggins observed
hurling verbal abuse and hard objects at the
wayward pickup truck that clipped him in the
Candlestick stadium parking lot. Rumors
persist that Ken "Mr. Baseball" McGuire
and his supposed second-cousin-once-
removed, Oakland A's first baseman Mark
McGwire have been busted during after
hours skate/strike-out sessions at the
Oakland Tech banks.
More NSA disasters? Are NSA events the
site of cataclysmic occurrences? Check out
the V-Beach/Hurricane Hugo connection.
How about the Santa Cruz mini-ramp/NorCal
earthquake correlation? Worst of all, how
about the disaster that befell the Virginia
Beach NSA slalom fiasco? The storm cleared
in time for the event to be run sans sanctions.
Wild reports rumored certain NSA officials
to be lost in some bar (quite obviously an
impossible feat, since this would clearly be
a violation of the NSA Code of Conduct).
Beau Brown, who at one point had chal-
lenged NSA racer Don Bostick to a duel,
was strangely perplexed as he appeared to
be searching far and wide (mostly far) for
Don. As far as slalom goes, Sundays at La
Costa are again the scene. Bobby Turner is
back building high-tech composite boards
and someone was rumored to have showed
up with esoteric Tracker tension bar set-ups.
SHAKE 'N BAKE
For serious fun, who could forget the 7.0
shaker that quaked S.F.? Surely not Tommy
Guerrero or Robert Kittila, who were film-
ing in the Marina District one second and
fleeing a massive explosion and fire the next
(accompanied by Thiebaud, Reyes and
Stranger). Or how about Kurt Carlson, who
was driving on the Bay Bridge just a few feet
shy of the collapse? While Swenson, Vitello,
MCM and Stimpson rocked inside:
Candlestick dodging 100-pound pieces of
broken concrete, outside K.T. and Jake slide-
and-rolled in the parking lot on their skates.
Meanwhile, Enrico Chandoha and Mark
Madeo were upset, not because of the poten-
tial health hazard, but because the quake
tilted them out of a high- scoring pinball
game? Rumors have also filtered in regar-
ding Rube-Tech's tweaked tremor plant,
John Lee's earth moving coital experience
and Shrewgy's ultimate bong hit. Apparently
B.K. and Ed Riggins are bummed because
they were in a Las Vegas casino when it hit
and don't have any quake stories to tell. The
strangest call of all was that at the moment
the quake hit Peralta and NHS leader Novak
were talking on the phone. Suddenly, the line
went dead and at this writing no one has
seen or heard of King Richard except for Fat
Mac, who was so shook he's silent. More
Team Santa Cruz quake news next month
(this issue was put to bed mere days after
the rattle of the Bay and that area was still
inaccessible). Mofo, naturally, was in a tat-
too parlor showing off his new "Godoy on
each leg art." Best wishes for a speedy
recovery go out to Thrasher BBS'er Arthur
Dent, who is recovering from a broken
sternum and internal injuries after his motor-
cycle flew off of the collapsing 880 Cypress
structure in Oakland.
