            NOTE
Clockwise from Left: In case you didn't get enough
in the tattoo article, Stray Cat Brian Setzer bares
his ink. Dee Dee Ramone at the Fillmore in his final
tour with the band. Spring fashion preview, Cycle
Slut From Hell style. Hickold hullabaloo in S.F
New dirt for a new decade... At long last, Corrosion of Conformity has
rosced, gigging around with new second guitarist Pepper Keenan, former
School of Violence vocalist Karl and bassist Phil Swischer. The sound is
heavy and eccentric, ala Soundgarden, and they should be recording soon.
... Dig this new Boston all-star rock act. No name yet, but the band includes
Bobby Sullivan, of DC's Soulside. Steve and Jamie from Slapshot, Casey
dstrom of Shake the Faith and Jamie Van Bramer of Jones Very and
Grin Guitarist Chuck Treece has parted ways with Underdog because
of personal differences. Vocalist Richie has taken over guitar duties for the
time being. White Zombie is back in the studio, tracking a twelve-inch
version of the Kiss number "God Of Thunder". Lou Svitek (guitar) and
John Monte (bass) have left M.OD. and are now doing a project with Reid
St. John (Celtic Frost) on drums. This should be interesting, but who's going
to front it? While in Mexico City, a certain member of DRI was picked
up by the police. Inside the wagon, some local gangsters persuaded/bribed
the fuzz to let all of them go. They did, and these gangster types followed
the DRI member to his hotel room. A ruckus occurred in which the gangsters
beat up and robbed said member of DRI. Upon regaining consciousness,
he jetted down to the lobby to file a complaint only to encounter the gangsters
again. More fists and knives occurred in this battle until the gangsters fled
to avoid incarceration. All of this happened while said DRI guy was minding
his own business. Holiday in Mexico City?... Suicidal Tendencies played
a special unannounced gig at the Concrete Foundations seminar in LA with
Excel, Laaz Rocket and Bullet LaVolta in support. No gang violence to speak
of, since it was an industry show and the public wasn't invited....Speaking
of Boston's LaVolta boys, apparently they have signed with ACA... Bay
Area bashers Vio-Lence recently signed with Megaforce/Atlantic... Back
after a one year lay-off are the Doughboys. Their old drummer Brock split
for India to find enlightenment and has been replaced by Paul Newman
(not the actor/race car driver/salad dressing king). ... A great live band is
Knife Dance from Ohio. Listen to their current Lp Wolf Hour for an idea.
... Despite the rumors, the Butthole Surfers have not left Touch and Go
Records. They have a four-song 12" entitled Widower Maker due out any
time now. It will be available on cassette and CD also. Their current U.S.
tour will culminate at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Opera House as part
of an alternative/performance art bash put together by Laurie Anderson
and friends. The heavy antics of Buttholes opener Gregory's Funhouse
are certainly not for the weak of heart. Supposedly, this S&M showman's
interior decorating tastes rival a Karen Finley show. Gregory's luckier house
guests may witness and feel the beauty of his excrement-in-Meson-jars
methane gas explosion pieces.... The Ramones have lost one of the family.
It seems that Dee Dee has hit the road to pursue a solo career. Those who
believe that adopted bassist CJ will have a hard time filling Dee Dee's
Converse can catch the new line-up in action as they tour Europe this winter.
Jesus Lizard is on a short tour to test new material before going full-
bore on the road. Supposedly singer David Yow's magic trick really impressos
the girls in the crowd. L7 is on their "Swappin Fluids Across the Na-
tion" tour. It started out with a broken tour bus in lovely Blythe, CA on 4th
of July weekend, but it has been great since then. L7's Sup Pop 7" (featur-
ing "Packin' A Rod" and "Shove") will be out soon.... Another killer Sub
Pop band to watch for is Cat Butt. Future vinyl from them will include a Ted
Nugent tribute Ep-White Trash from the East Meets White Trash from the
West, another Ep, Journey to the Center of the Cat Butt, and a possible split
single with White Zomble which could turn up as a SubPop single of the
month...More Nuge news: San Francisco seventies kings Ted Zeppelin
continue to blow eardrums and flare pant legs with their barrage of pure
Nugent/Zeppelin cover material....Anthrax is working on material for
a new Lp. They will do two gigs to premier said material at the end of '89.
Be there or do laundry... King's X are doing a major U.S. tour with Billy
Squier, so get ready to camp out for those tickets. On a more signifi-
cant note, Bad Religion's new release, No Control should be out by the time
you read this. If it is equal to their last effort, Suffer, you better get to that
record store on the double.
