BOLT ACTION
I've been skating for about two
years and I've always been afraid of
receiving an injury that would keep
me off my skate for a long time. I've
feared broken ankles, sprained
wrists, being hit by cars, and several
other serious injuries, but until
yesterday I had never worried about
being struck by lightning. I was
skating to an old girlfriend's house
when it suddenly began to sprinkle
I decided to keep going. That was
a mistake because it started to really
pour. I figured, "Oh well, my deck
tape needs cleaning anyway." Sud-
denly, a tree not 40 feet from me was
hit by a huge bolt of lightning. In an
instant there was a bright flash,
sparks flying, and a clap of thunder
louder than anything I've ever heard
As the smell of an old battery filled
the air I began to feel extremely
vulnerable. After getting to my old
girlfriend's house and telling her
about how I almost became people

PAS FREE
Even if this letter has nothing to
do with skating itself, I'm sending it
to Thrasher because I think skaters
are concerned with the notions of
liberty and freedom, skateboarding
being a crime in almost every
American city. I just got back from
California where I spent two weeks
with my mother. We were really look
ing forward to this trip, being French
and having heard all those cliché
things about America. Well, we have
pretty much changed our minds
since. How can you call yourself
free? How can you make your coun
try the symbol of liberty when you
are not even allowed to drink a beer
on the beach or roll on a board with
four wheels under it? All we saw
were "NO" signs. On the beach,
cops on bikes, motorcycles, horses,
cars, helicopters were passing in
front of us. It looked like a Disney
parade. They looked like cowboys

or a bottle of wine. You have thei

marijuana is legal and I'd like to
know how many people died after
smoking pot compared to the
number who died in the States from
cancer caused by tobacco.
Your government is hypocritical,
so don't be brainwashed. Look for
the definition of the word "freedom"
in the dictionary.

LYING DOWN ON THE JOB
I told everyone I was good at
skating, but I really sucked. So I lied
about hurting my ankle on a front-
side rock & roll when they came over
my house to skate with me. I tried
to keep the lie going for as long as
possible (about 3 months). I would
limp every once in a while and stuff

won't even talk to me anymore. "I'm
sorry guys."

NEW MATH
I was listening to the radio on my
way to school today and there was
a commercial for a back-to-shcool
sale. It talked about different uses
for school items (calculator batteries
for Walkmans was one). There was
