Jason Jessee, above, is a halfway-painted man. A
heartwarming credo, right, is broadcast from
Steve Schneer's shoulder.

efore you get your dander up, sit back and relax, smoke
'em if you got 'em, and take this exposé nice and slow.
Skateboarders have always been known for their eccen-
tricities-wild music, overzealous attitudes, habits of
destruction, rule breaking, etc.-so it should come as
no surprise that a number of them are also devoted to the tattoo
arts. On the following pages you'll encounter conversations with
tattooed notables such as Jason Jessee, and the Godoy twins,
Art and Steve, who own a tattoo machine and have tattooed each
other and many of their friends. You'll visit a tattoo convention
with Mike Corcoran, who's collected several nice pieces himself.
Jason Jessee interviews Mark Mahoney from SoCal, a reknown
tattoist of many a skate dog as well as other notorious celebrity
types. Bill Salmon, chief tattooman at Ed Hardy's Realistic Studio
in San Francisco, lays down some valuable guidelines on how
to "get," "choose" and "take care of" a tattoo. Also, there are
photos of many skaters' stained skins.
Now, it's not our intention to bust up any families over this
subject, or encourage little Johnny to go out and get himself
all marked up. We're just showing you what's going on.
