But hey, playing this sort of confused lead
is a change of pace for me. I not only get the
girl but I get to be the hero."
Martians Go Home chronicles the hope-
fully hilarious misadventures of a group of
obnoxious Martians who are accidentally
brought to our planet and attempt to adjust
to our ways. Directed by David O'Dell from
a Charlie Haas script, the film also stars Anita
Morris, Margaret Colin and real live comics
Barry Sobel and Vic Dunlap.
Quaid continues to make his case for play-
ing second banana to the Martians. "Taking
a backseat to the Martians is the way the
story is laid out. My character's this poor
schlump who's being put upon by aliens and
it's his job to respond to what they're doing
im.
"It's a different part for me and it's not the
most challenging," he says candidly. "But
I like my character and coming to the set
each day was a blast. I would say
thats a pretty good sign that I
haven't been wasting time."

Randy Quaid knew as he was going into
the comedy Martians Go Home that it would
offer him little more than the opportunity to
play straight man to a bunch of comics
dressed in green face.
"That bothered me at first," says the actor
who portrays earthling jingle writer Mark
Devereaux in this adaptation of the Frederic
Brown novel. "When I read the script I said
"Wow! The Martians have all the good lines."
CHOPPING LIST
The Horror Show (MGM)
The pick of this
month's litter focuses on
a killer who comes back
from the dead to torment
the police officer who
captured him. Great
acting, great gore
and a villain who
kicks Freddy and
Jason. Highly
recommended.
