Ithough most members of skaterkind assume that snow-
boarding occurs only during the wet pavement months, this aggro,
alpine activity is actually a year-round occupation for many glacier
chasers. Unlike the finnicky pole-clutching skiers who simper in
slush and whimper about rocks, snowboarders seize any available
patch of white and whomp it till the sun goes down. Witness the
methodical air attack by George Pappas (left) and Bert Lamar's
sequential stab (right) on the glaciated, stone-flanked Mt. Hood
half. From Blackcomb in Canada to Mt. Hood and Mt. Bachelor
in Oregon, any high altitude spot that holds snow through the
summer solstice is a prime target for rippage. As the inset photos
will attest, beach cruisers, bare chests, Bermuda shorts, and other
surf-burg regalia are common sights at these locales. ►
