Fear" A metallic edge permeates
their strongest material, as on the
riveting stomp "A Lot to Learn."
Watch for this promising outfit to
outgrow their name. SM
MARY MY HOPE
Museum
Silvertone
Something about the serious looks
in the earnest eyes of these pretty
young men tells me that this is the
stuff college radio dreams are made
of. This record has just enough
honest guitar and guts to save it from
banality. There are a few annoying
bits of acoustic guitar and anxious
vocals, but I guess a lot of people
really like those things. Personally.
I'll take a few of the rawer tracks, like
"Wildman, Childman," the gnarly
blues ditty "Heads & Tales" or the
aptly named "Grind." Right now, I
gotta put this record away because
those guys are spooking me. So

MORE SONGS ABOUT LOVE & HATE
BAUHAUS
Swing The Heartache
Beggars Banquet/RCA, Lp
Sure, everyone's heard everything
on this Lp in one form or another, and
of course this is being released to
capitalize on Love & Rockets' phen-
omenal success. But facts are facts:
this is a true goth's delight-four
sides of previously unreleased
versions of Bauhaus chestnuts en-
compassing the band's entire career
This collection should cause even
the most depressed, suicidal Peter
Murphy wanna-be to crack his/her
facepaint with an uncharacteristic
grin. Powerful, passionate and dis-
turbing. Swing The Heartache makes
you wonder why they hung it up. SM

MORDRED
Fool's Game
Noise International
Finally, the long awaited debut of
SF's own Mordred. Could this be
one of the best metal albums of the
Forever Ungratical Corinartic year? I think so. It's a glorious sym-
Technikilation
Carlyle Records
Nashville's El-You-See-Tee could
be described as hardcore meets
thrash metal meets psychedelia.
Since they formed in '86, these guys
have caused catastrophic upheaval
to normal listening pleasure. Their
lyrics are thoughtful and concerned
with the state of our natural environ-
ment and the illicit actions of
mankind. FUCT. has released two
previous demos of equal power
which have the critics raving. RR
LAW AND ORDER
Guilty of Innocence
MCA
These New York hard rockers took
a vacation in Memphis, Tennessee,
and returned with an album as
Southern-fried tasty as it is superior
to the bulk of the new 70s revisions.
Law and Order offers a wide range
of gritty rockers, moody power
ballads and blues numbers with a
lyrical content most of the competi-
tion can't touch. Vocalist Shane ex-
udes sincerity as he matches themes
of maturity and justice with Phil
Allocco's aggressive axemanship.
Incidentally, Law & Order will donate
royalties from this album to the Mem-
phis Delta Blues Museum. Finally, a
band that transcends the sea of stu-
pidity most choose to wallow in. MG
MOG 30 Sede O Marian,
phony of head-splitting guitar crafts-
manship and variation. This record
gets better every time I listen to it,
proving Mordred's capability to stand
out amongst the usual metal melt-
down crowd. Cuts like "State of
Mind," "The Artist" and "Super-
freak" are perfect examples of
Mordred's definitive style. Intelligent
and politically motivated lyrics are
included in this package. An ex-
collent investment and a great
cover need I say more? RR
LETHAL GOSPEL
Equals Jihad
Salmon Eye
Good of Lethal Gospel found
another bank to give them a loan so
they could put out their fourth Ep on
their own Salmon Eye label. Jihad,
in case you aren't up on your Arabic,
is the Islamic term for the sort of all-
out holy war where you gladly die in
battle so you can go to the all-male
Islamic warrior heaven where nubiles
attend you for all eternity. That equals
Lethal Gospel, get it? This record
continues in the time-honored Lethal
Gospel tradition of loud songs with
saxophone, screaming about Native
Americans, cosmic right and wrong
and cunnilingus (though it might
have been nice, just for this record,
if they had changed their label's
name to Salman Eye). SO
