Celebrity Skin passed up a tour of Germany and a contract with LSD records
(a German label) because of increased "industry interest" stateside. They
have purportedly given up their favorite local thrift shop haunts in favor of
hanging around Disneyland with a number of chicks in tie-dye who make
Jerry Lee Lewis' 13-year-old cousin/bride Myra Williams look positively
geriatric The Droogs are recording a Bad Religion tune for release
on their new European Lp. Paul Cutler (of 45 Grave fame, etc., etc.) is
engineering/producing. When the Cro Mags played the Country Club
in the San Fernando Valley, protesters for the organization SHARP (Skinheads
Against Racial Prejudice) showed up. Their demonstration was peaceful

enough. Even so, tensions ran high between the less liberal-minded skins
and members of SHARP Inside, the Cro Mags played most of the songs
on their new album, Best Wishes. After a few skirmishes around the pit, bassist
Harley Flanagan stopped and asked the crowd for a peaceful show-which
they finally got. Too bad more crowds cannot be that cooperative. New
Rad Band Department. From Hollywood, California: Slave. Don't let the name
fool you. They're the brainchild of Drac (ex-Daggers) and E.G. Daly (who
some of you might recognize as Pee Wee Herman's girlfriend in "Pee Wee's
Big Adventure"). Members of the Cruzados and The Rodder Brothers fill
out this combo. E.G., by the way, has a solo Lp out on A&M Records, called
Lace Around the Wound (Slave does not appear on it), and she will be touring
Another hot new ticket is Slang from S.F. This ripping raunchy
rock combo contains Barry. Chris and Bomber of RKL fame. They should
not be missed. Mary Danish (who most consider to be the B-52's of
the nineties, although whether that's a compliment or an insult is debatable)
are going on tour in support of their first Lp on Chameleon Records, called
There Goes the WonderTruck. They'll be coming to a town near you, opening
shows across the country for Stan Ridgeway. Does anyone remember

Molesters.
Thee Unforgiven? Well, we spotted John Henry Jones, their ex-lead singer
at the Rennaissance Faire, leading the jousting tournament! Yup, the dude
rides around the fair in hundred-degree weather wearing full armor, doing
four to ten jousting demonstrations a day. And that's with real lances, in case
you were wondering. Not only that, he does jousting tours, too. And you guys
thought skating a halfpipe was rad....Steve Wynn, mogul for Down There
Records, as well as the brains behind the Dream Syndicate, is putting out
a compilation Lp called Only 39,999,999 Behind "Thriller" featuring Naked
Prey. The Dream Syndicate, Divine Weeks, Top Jimmy And The Rhythm
Pigs, etc. That should be out soon, the result of about four years of hard
work. The new Hickolds Lp on Toxic Records is titled Walts Across-Dress
America-and quite appropriately we might add. Last time they were in L.A.,
it seems all they did was raid the closets of every woman they came across
and have drunken "drag races" down the street in front of Tex and the
Horsehead's Hollywood apartment. Their new big hit is entitled "He's the
Queen of the Barbeque."... You're bummed if you never saw San Jose's
Boneshavers. Bob Denike and his rocking crew won't be playing out
anymore. But, you can still dig their sound on their upcoming Ray Stevens-
produced Lp Motor Psycho....Nitro and its battle for higher volume has
clubs checking their foundations before the band plays. In Detroit, they literally
brought the house down when the ceiling partially collapsed because of
the intensity. Chunks of plaster were falling, but the band played on....
Rumor from Texas tells of a New Kids On The Block gig gone awry when
Kerry King of Slayer threw beer on the New Kids' lead singer. Kerry and
Kid then proceeded to beat each other up while security held the other New
Kids back. San Diego's Paladins have just returned from a triumphant
European tour and are now back in the studio recording their third album
for Alligator Records. Guest appearances by Los Lobos Cesar Rosas and
Blaster's sax man Lee Allen are included on this record, produced by Los
Lobos' Steve Berlin.... Hairdresser, motorcycle racer and Venice skate
man Rev. Marty Nation is expecting a baby in early January. His sleaze
rock band Crowbar just released their own record. Crowbar features members
of the Surfpunks, Blood on the Saddle. Divine Horsemen and Child
Lydia Lunch is back in New York writing a book chronicling
her crazy life, from her punk rock band Teenage Jesus and the Jerks to
her current cult film and performance art success. Hopefully, this effort will
be at least as good as her first book, "Adulterers Anonymous." That book,
co-written with X's Exene Cervenka was a rambling poetry adventure....
Exene has bought a ranch in Wyoming with beautiful baby Hank and exotic
hubby Viggo. Meanwhile ex-hubby John Doe is becoming a film star. His
solo Lp will be released this fall on Geffen Records. He also runs a vintage
clothing store on Melrose called God Help Us. His performance in Great Balls
Of Fire was one of the saving high points in the film.... Riders in the Sky.
the novelty western band on MCA has been in L.A. negotiating with the big
networks for the rights to a TV pilot. One of the proposed screenplays in-
cludes Ranger Doug (the idol of American youth) falling for ex-stripper and
underground country singer Candye Kane. Riders in the Sky become cult
figures, and the punk rockers in underground Hollywood emulate them. Now
you know why we don't watch TV.... Bassist Eddie Junior has been ousted
from Leeway.... Talk about busting out in a big way-24-7 Spyz appeared
recently at the Pop Park Festival in Holland. Approximate attendance: 70,000.
The Spyz are also the first band ever to have a video in simultaneous rota-
tion on three MTV specialty shows. The video is "Jungle Boogie" and the
shows are 120 minutes, Yo! MTV Raps and Hard 30... John Cougar Mellen-
camp joined Living Colour onstage during a recent benefit for the homeless
at NYC's Beacon Theater. One of the tunes the unlikely alliance played was
Mellencamp's own "Pink Houses."... Apparently Public Enemy has re-
formed. With Professor Griff, for that matter.... Nuclear Assault will once
again head for Europe where they will fulfill every headbanger's dream:
headlining the Hammersmith Odeon....Sick Of It All's "Injustice System"
video has been re-edited to obscure the faces of both police officers and
victims involved in last year's Thompkins Square Park riot.... Ludichrist
has made the move from Combat Records to In Effect Records. Their third
Lp, Here Comes Trouble, includes a kicking version of Cheech & Chong's
classic "Earache My Eye" and a treatment of Mozart's "Sonata No. 9."...
In San Francisco, the recent nude encore performance by Damned man
Captain Sensible raised many an eyebrow. The lead singer for Bakersfield
punkers Big Jed raised more than that at another S.F. show a week earlier.
When homo-core supporters protested B.J.'s song "The Only Good Faggot
Is A Dead Faggot," said singer proved his non-homophobia and the tongue
(etc.) in cheekness of the tune by fellating a male member of the audience.
On that note, goodbye.
We
A SHORT RAP WITH 7A3
figured it was time to put some beat in this sheet, so we sent MC Tate
to chill with L.A. rappers 7A3. Just back from playing Mike Tyson's birth-
day bash and stoked on their new Lp Coolin' in Cali, brothers Brett and
Sean were happy to oblige the Tate Man in this mini-interview.
How did your band get its name?
(Brett) It was our apartment, 7A,
with three people, me, my brother
and my mother. That's 7A3. We
grew up in Brooklyn. I moved to
LA. when I was 15 and Sean
moved out when he was 14.
(Sean) I'm 17 now and Brett's 20.
Who else is in the band?
(B) Grand Mixer Muggs, our D.J.
When was the world first ex-
posed to 7A3?
(B) Our first release was "Party
Time" with "Why" on the flip side.
What about the Colors sound-
track album?
(B) We did a song on that called
"Mad Mad World. That went gold
and so did "Party Time," so we
have two gold records
Is there a tour planned?
(B) Yeah. We're looking at a tour,
hopefully with Salt N' Peppa. We
can't wait. We only have dishes to
play with now; we need to go
onstage and entertain.
What do you do besides record?
(B) We play basketball, baseball,
football, and we even skate a little.
Where we came from we had those
cheap GT plastic boards. When we
came out here, we started getting
fly boards.
Do you have any advice for the
kids out there?
(S) Yeah, all jokes aside, stay in
school and never give up. Believe
in yourself, even when it gets hard.
Stay on the hard road, because if
you take the easy road, you won't
be able to deal with the hard road.
(B) Believe in yourself no matter.
what anyone says. There is nothing.
impossible on planet Earth. Don't
get caught in peer pressure.
Who has influenced you?
(B) Nobody in particular, but rap
music in general. And my mother.
We are products of the welfare
system. My major influence was
that I didn't want to let my mother
down. She worked too damn hard
for me to wind up in a cell or an-
other statistic on a piece of paper.
A lot of kids out there think it's
cool to go against everything
without thinking.
(B) I'm only twenty right now, but
looking back on my teen-age years.
I would say listen to your parents.
They're not right all the time, but
a lot of what they say has some
truth in it. Take the truth and see
what you can do with it.
Anything else?
(7A3) Listen for our new album.
There's something on it for
everybody. Thanks a lot, skate,
peace, unity, love. Word up, we're
outta here. D
