high school or college age. There are lessons on Saturday mornings for little kids, though Dave Roberts says no one's come
out for them yet. Roberts is an Indianapolis native who built the entire park himself, with an assist from the local vo-tech
high school wood shop classes. Roberts also manages the park year-round, with some help from local George Manning-along
with Tim DeSanto (who refers to himself, at 29, as the oldest local
skater, a pro ski racer/art agent with his own syndicated ski tip TV
slot), Matt Andrews, Chad Welke (Kokomo, who placed 11th in
vert, 14th in street in the NSA qualifiers), Jay Winans, Doug Pico.
Rob Brooks, C.D., Brock Charleston, Brian Backstrom, Jason, and
Jay Moore. There's a night street scene down at Freimann Park,
but the city's tryin' to regulate it, citing busted park benches and
shredded curbs. City Hall sees the park as a street solution. As
everywhere, ramp and street DO NOT meet...when it came
time to i.d. the street pics, the ramp rod with the skewed 'tude
referred to those pictured as "non-people: street skaters."

Left to Right: Rooming through the

to older hardcore. The average spud in the Wayne, wearing
a Lynrd Skynrd tee, Lee flares and a trucker's wallet hasn't a
clue-not much to tempt a dame into unclean thoughts.
TALKIN' ABOUT THE WAYNE
"I moved here from Arizona two years ago. Fort Wayne is about
90% street skaters, even though we have two of the best
halfpipes around. Come to Fort Wayne and skate-there's never a crowd." Shawn DeLong
"Proving once again there's more to Indiana than corn." Matt Anderson
"I moved to Fort Wayne from Indy to help build the ramps at the park. It's a pretty cool town as long as you don't let
the people get to you. Hey, skaters, come to the Wayne so I have someone to skate with." Dave Roberts
"You may not live longer in Indiana, but it sure as hell will feel like it." The Pine Tree Cult Goddess
