More news from the Naugahyde nightmare
decade that won't stop recurring: Australian
label, Waterfront Records, will soon release
an all-Kiss cover compilation. On it will be per-
formances by Skinyard, Bullet Lavolta and
All. Meanwhile, on the west coast, San Fran
cisco's DNA lounge played host to an eerie
entertainment phenomenon. Called the Tater Totz, this ensemble combined
the talents of recent history buffs Jeff and Steve McDonald, Tiger Beat deity
Leif Garrett and rockin' Partridge Danny Bonaducci.... Are these symp
toms of a budding 70's revolution supported or refuted by the purported fact
that no radio station in the United States will play "The Hustle" by Van McCoy?
Contact your local DJ to find out if this rumor is true. Sporting a new
drummer-Todo Phillips (ex-Moving Targets)-Bullet Lavolta are currently
making a U.S./Euro trek behind their new Lp, The Gift. Look for their new
12" soon. Big news, li'l labels. California's Powerhouse Records has
come to the rescue of American Standard and will release their new Lp
Wonderland soon. Also on Powerhouse are Mind over Fore and the new
Unity Lp. Swamp Zombies cruised out to the swamps of NJ recently

and were anything but zombies! Steve Jacobs is one of the hottest stand
up bass players going. They have an Lp out now called Fink and will be
touring the U.S. this fall... The Vandals are currently defacing Europe
for 2 months. Their new guitar player Greg Davis (ex-Blood on the Sad-
dle), signed on just in time for a ten-date U.S. tour and a free trip to Europe.

Dave Q., Joe E. and Doug M., all able boardsmen and eager entrepreneurs,
hope to have a Vandals skate out in the future.... SST recently had to recall
all of Das Damen's Marshmallow Conspiracy Eps and cassettes because
of a threatened lawsuit by Michael Jackson's publishing company. The song
in question was "Song for Michael Jackson to Sell," an unauthorized cover
of the Beatles" "Magical Mystery Tour," which is now owned by Jackson.
Apparently the one-gloved pixie has less sense of humor than he does human
characteristics....The Lee Harvey Oswald Band, a new name in the Touch
and Go roster, will have a 12" out soon. Totally unknown and based in
Champaign, IL, this outfit is guaranteed to blow your mind.... Keep your
ears peeled for the new 12" by Arsenal, featuring Santiago Durango (ex-
Big Black).... And speaking of Mr. Albini and company, a Big Black live
video and soundtrack Lp containing very early footage and stage antics from
their last shows together will be out any day now....Iggy Pop will have
a role in the new John Waters flick Cry Baby. It's rumored to have a really
far out, all-star cast including Patty Hearst, Traci Lords and Johnny Depp.
(Is Waters riding the 70's train in a different vein?)... Cover Coverage. Check
out the mind boggling 360° shot of Paul's Bou-
tique (Lublow St., NYC) on the cover of the new
Beastie Boys Lp of the same name. The Ric
Ocasek-designed Bad Brains sleeve is reported to be another dazzler. Of
course, neither one tops the infamous lamb chops over bare cocks Low Meato
sheath. While we're on the subject of Low Meato, is it true that
the most ardent groupie of those effervescent NYC hardcore hip-
hopsters (who also double as male porn models) is none other than
Thrasher scribe Mike Gitter? How about this gig? The X-rated
film critics are having an annual bash in Vegas this fall. Scheduled
for "entertainment" are the Sporting Bachelors, the Mentors and
a Plugz reunion show... Ex-Bad Brains drummer Mackle is keep-
ing busy pounding the skins for the Icemen and Urban Blight. No
word where ex-vocalist Taj is, though... Another great live act who
hasn't had vinyl out in two years is Tupelo Chain Sex. Their new Lp
41 (their fourth record) has been released on Cargo Records. Also on
Cargo will be a new Asexuals Lp called Dish. Cargo metal rookies Dyoxen
are in the studio now putting the finishing touches on a new Lp First Among
Equals....Other Cargo news: They will be putting out a hardcore comp-
ilation for Rear Guard magazine called "On Guard," featuring the Asexuals,
Schlonk, 3 O'Clock Train, Infamous Bastards and Scum. They are also
exclusive agents for a French label, Bondage Records and will be distributing
a hot French punk Lp by Berrurier Nori.... Oh no, more of that nutty NYHC!
Sick of it All has enlisted a new drummer, Max Capshaw. Former drummer
Armand Majidi has returned to full-time status as frontman for Rest in Pieces.
... Why weren't Minor Threat/Dag Nasty/Doggy Style alumnus Brian Baker
and his crew Junkyard more visible on their last trip to NYC? Could it be
that Baker was hiding out from Sick Of It All guitarist Pete "Killer" Koller,
with whom he had quite a run-in on Dag's last ever tour? Says Pete: "I slap-
ped him around like a bitch in front of everyone."... After ousting one-time
"Minister of Propaganda" Professor Griff for his blatantly anti-semitic tirade
in a major East Coast daily, Public Enemy has called it quits, and on MTV
no less. Sub Pop has a Singles of the Month subscription club with
releases by Pussy Galore, Tad and more. Contact Sub Pop to get your mon-
thly 7" slab, it's better than the Book of the Month club, dude!... Sonic
Youth has signed to Geffen.... Poison Idea is releasing their first demo
as an Ep. Whether or not they will now release their first Ep as a demo is
still a mystery. We do know that they are also releasing a cassingle of new
material. Was that really Axl Rose seen taking his first stage dive at
the Metallica gig in Chicago? And how about that new Tin Machine video
with Bowle surrounded by divers and slammers. Note the prominence of
the Cro Mags' Harley Flannagan as he mugs it up with D.B. Gee, anyone
else want to jump on this "new" bandwagon? Look out for the
Lunachicks, an all-female chaotic rock ensemble. They've taken the opposite
approach of glamsters Vixen, choosing a relentless crunch attack over
spending hours teasing hair and posing. The Lunachicks' debut double 7"
will definitely shave the hair off your legs.... With the Rolling Stones reunion
tour comes Rolling Stones clothes, shoes, skateboards, etc. Will this be the
next trend? Is there such merchandise on the Monkees reunion tour? Is
current rock so bad that the bands from the 60s must reunite to cash in on
all that dough? Whatever happened to the Kiss-makeup reunion tour? Anyone
else Who you think should reunite? Do NOT send your suggestions to
Notes-please.... The Four Horsemen have released a four-track Ep on
the label....Danzig will be releasing a home video with footage from
backstage, live performances and various graveyards.... NY's Cycle Sluts
from Hell have signed with Epic.... Ex-Necros vocalist Barry Henssler
is currently fronting a unit tagged Big Chief. Expect a 7" on Sub Pop in
STYL
December. (Possibly part of the Hit of the Month Club?) In other ex-Necros
news, former guitarist Andy Wendler is currently gigging with Detroit's Gone
in Sixty Seconds.... Black Sabbath has quit their recent American tour
due to poor ticket sales. They intend to resume touring in the fall. (You'd
think they'd take the hint.)... Rumor persists that Faith No More may join
the current U.S. Metallica road show. Metallica is playing two surprise club
dates in the next few weeks somewhere in the U.S. before finishing up a
year and a half of touring some time in November with a series of English
shows. Faster Pussycat is in the studio doing a second album and we
know you're stoked. And speaking of-well anyway, Pussy Galore's
latest release, Dial M for Motherfucker, is out now. Their video single from
the album, Dick Johnson, should be penetrating the airwaves soon. Hey,
didn't he write a contest story for Thrasher?... Shadowland has an album
due out early this fall. Both Robert Plant and Waterboys play on the record.
... Gene Loves Jezebel split up.... Blast First records is rumored to have
gone belly up. What's in store for the Butthole Surfers, who just dropped
Touch & Go and signed with Blast First?
