I'm a real pussy. Sometimes people say
things and piss me off, so I prefer to stay by
myself. I'm very safe and easy-going. At
times I'll party till the sun comes up, but I'm
also very responsible. I think the older I get
the deeper my burps get.
How do you think others see you?
Probably the same-safe, easy-going,
nice guy.
How do they see you as a skater?
There was a time when I was a very hot
item. After I quit Sims everyone wanted me.
It's funny, the only company that didn't want
me was Powell. I would have skated for them.
Now I wouldn't, it would get me nowhere.
What about now?
I think people see me as a motivated
person making a comeback. I lost a lot of
motivation a few years ago. I was into
breakdancing and stuff. I went back to
skating and ruptured my kidneys and
dislocated my hip. Then last year I thought
I was really going under but I pulled myself
together. I guess my time wasn't up yet.
How did that injury come about?
I was doing a demo in Huntington Beach,
having fun, then out of nowhere I locked up
on lien to tail and I ended up going to the
hospital. I bruised all the ribs on my left side
and ruptured my kidney. It was a major slam.
Locking up is the worst thing you can do,
because you're not expecting it, you're try
ing not to do it. That was my worst ever in
jury. I've been to the hospital many times.
Is that because of your skating style?
Sometimes I just push it too far, and I
shouldn't push it that far. I get hurt. I try to
push myself to the limit all the time, go over it.

How will your injuries affect you in the
future?
They kind of already are, really. I'll defin-
itely have arthritis or some kind of weird thing
going on when I'm old. But I still go out and
do stuff, whatever I want.
What gave you the motivation to come
back from an injury like that?
I brought myself back by going back to my
roots. Because when you get hurt you get
scared, you get a little burnt-out too. You start
thinking about stuff, like quitting.
What do you do for fun?
I surf a lot. I like to play pool and box. I also
like to shop. I'm real into my clothes, I take
a lot of pride in how I look.
What about drugs?
No comments, really. I have had my share
of experiences but it doesn't rule my life.
Now you're back on track. Are you skating
a lot of demos and contests?
jump ramps. I don't want to be labeled as a
I'm not real crazy about demos, especially
tests, but they are so political. I have seen
a lot of good people get burned. But

street skater. I'm a ramp skater. I still do con-
to let them down.
What do you think the next big
skate style will be?
Skating has evolved a lot over the
years. We have come a long way
from the surf and barefoot skaters.
I think the next big thing will be
squared off skateboards with two
kicktails.
What do you think of skateboard
magazines
It all seems very inside, very in-
dustry. I read them, though. I have
my own skate zine, the House of
Kasai. It's the house zine that goes
out to my skaters? It has lots of
photos and a horoscope (skate-
scope). I'm a Leo.
Are you a typical Leo?
No, I don't even see the Leo in
me. Leo's are supposed to be real
loud, always trying to be the center
of attention.
Are you into astrology?
I used to be, I used to read books
and stuff about it.
What are your tastes in music?
Lately I've been going through all
my old records-999, Sex Pistols,
Clash. All that old stuff is really
good. I've been into that lately.

away, what would you do?
Become a dirtbagger, play pool, drink beer
and surf. What else is there? Maybe move
to Hawaii.
Hawaii?
Yeah. I've spent a lot of time there but I've
never lived there. Most of my relatives are
from Hawaii. We had a family reunion there
two years ago.
What's in the future for Lester Kasal?
There are so many things I want to do but
don't have time to. I would like to get back
to my roots. Move to Hawaii, surf a lot more,
find a nice quiet girl and be happy. I want
to buy a house over there next year. And I
have thought about going to college to see
what it's like.
Any plans for sending Adrian or yourself
on overseas tours this year?

Yeah, we're going to Munster, Germany,
Are you content with life?
Japan, too. That could be fun.
Yeah, but I thought growing up would be
a lot different.
