In a display of ultimate scene unity, the Iranian people
stunned the punk world by opening up the largest
pit ever created on the face of the earth, an estimated
10 million strong. In tribute to their deceased leader,
the Ayatollah Khomeini, the frenzied fundamen-
talists literally redefined the term headbanging. The
Ayatollah, always on the cutting edge (and apparently
too punk to die), responded with a stage dive/head
walk/body pass that had everyone stoked and
screaming for hours. Rumors that the religious zea-
lots will now be called Moshlems are as yet uncon-
firmed. New York hardcores Sick Of It All will
join Exodus on the east coast dates of their upcoming
tour. The western gigs will be supported by Bay Area
faves Forbidden. Nuclear Assault has signed
with In-Effect Records for Lp number three. The disk,
entitled Handle With Care, is due to be released in
82
the fall. N.A. has been quite busy recently, ven-
turing down to Brazil to tour with Roadracer faves
Sepultura. After a year's search Corrosion
of Conformity has finally landed a front man. His
name is Carl, and he is known for his work with
NY's School of Violence and Connecticut's
Seizure. They are currently shopping for a record
deal and are discussing a European tour before
year's end....And on the topic of C.O.C., watch
for Snake Nation, a studio project with C.O.C. ax-
eman Woody Weatherman, one-time bassist
Mike Dean and cult cartoonist Brian Walsby. It's
scheduled for release through Caroline.
Seems that our old pal King Diamond has been
served with a "take the make-up off or else" suit by none other than
the dean of demonmania himself, Gene Simmons. Gene feels the
King's startling whiteface is a tad close to his virtually self-patented
KISS make-up... Mutant Maybelline department continued: The
mighty Gwar recently brought their monstrous majesty and mayhem
to New York's Rapp Centre to unveil "The Cardinal Sin Show," the
world debut of a towering robot that the Gwarriors are forced to do
battle with. Atlantic demo-deal recipients Blitzspeer opened and
impressed the various fans and industry types in attendance.
From Rick Rubin's stable comes Wolfsbane's debut Lp Live Fast,
Die Fast (wicked tales of booze, birds and bad language). This puppy
should be a scorcher. Rick's in the studio with Trouble, who is
reportedly sounding beyond heavy for their new Lp... Danzig has
finished a third video, "She Rides." Footage was also shot for "Am
I Demon." Now that Danzig has relocated west to Smogtown, will
the madness grow to new heights? Look for a new Red Lorry
Yellow Lorry album in October... The New Model Army summer
tour was righteous and rocking, though they appeared visibly dis-
turbed at some shows by the audience's lack of dance enthusiasm.
Are former TV troubadours, those brave pioneers of the classic
Clockwise from Far Left:
Loud, proud and a bit mad
at the crowd, Justin Sullivan
of New Model Army sows his wild oats at the
I-Beam in S.F. 24-7 Peter Fluid does the inverted
barbarian yawp. Reunited and it feels so good, the
Bad Brains persevere to press another record.
Skaterock of the 90s: Buck plucks and clucks at
the Fillmore in S.F.
70s music variety
shows, now attempting
to pursue legitimate
musical careers in the
90s? Witness Sonny
and Cher's recent duet
on David Letterman,
and the appearances
ofboth Donny Osmond
and David Cassidy on
the Arsinio Hall Show. Is
Buck Owens' (remem-
ber Hee-Haw?) Ameri-
can tour another exam-
ple of this 70s schlock
revival, or is he a legit-
imate guitar twangin'
good ol' boy? His show
at the Fillmore in S.F
was loved by some and
missed by many.

phernalia packrat John

Sorry John.
