The complete set-up idea gives you a sam-
ple of the total machines the pros ride, not merely
components. I rode the Marty "Jinx" Jiminez
deck as a complete set-up this month. It features
Tracker Sixtracks and Vision 92 Hurricanes. This
is another plank that has everything that I require
in a street deck: great concave, a fat upturned
nose and a good pop on the tail. The deck
measures in at 31" long, 9%" wide, with a 4½"
nose and a 6" tall. Jinx knows that most decks
require a little extra wood in the hip area for those
skylab airs that all of us do. The Tracker trucks
have been around, and they take a little while
to get used to, but they are strong and very
stable. While Tracker has gone through some
tough times, they are still making what they make
best; trucks. The only complaint I had was that
the axles were sticking out a good 4" from the
edge of the wheel. This means that the axle
threads get scratched up pretty good, which can
lead to wheel changing problems later. Tracker

The Hurricanes were harder than the 92 duro-
motor claimed, but they are smooth and slide-
able. They wore out faster than other wheels on
the market, but they felt great when they were
new. The functional shape is what I like about
these wheels. They have a rounded outer edge
and a smooth inner radius for easy re-entries
Worth a look next time you shop for the rollers

Santa Cruz is smart enough to
make concaves designed by their
own riders. The new Hosoi deck is
one such board. Christian's new
design looks like it bows in the mid-
dle, almost a camber flex. Where the
"Cruise Missile" concave is like a
rocker, this board goes the other way.
I don't know the name of it (street,
ramp, or whatever); just look for the
one with the "Picasso" graphics.
Christian Hosoi used to ride the
"Hammerhead," but it seems that he
is now going for a more classic shape
with no harsh angles or cuts. It
measures in at 30%" long, 10%"
wide, only 3% of nose and a whop-
ping 7" tail. Those who know will ride
The new Santa Cruz Large
Roskopp with Independent 1695
and 95A 64mm Team Riders is this
month's second set-up. I was happy
to discover that I could ride this
assembly every day and like it. As
I stated last month, the Santa Cruz
"Cruise Missile" concave is sure-
footed and comfortable. The
Roskopp features a blunt nose and
a flared tail for just the right combi-
nation of durability and function.
The measurements are 30%" by
10 with a 34 nose, a 6½" tail
and an 8% snap zone. The Indy
169s are usually a little wide for me,
but on this board they fit just right.
The added width also helps for
grinds. The Team Riders are fast
as hell. The only problem I ex-
perienced with these wheels was
that the bearings didn't stay seated
properly. I reversed them, put in
some stainless steel speed rings
and the problem ceased to exist.
Overall, this is a great set-up for the
street as well as the other stuff you
all ride daily

A new Schmitt Stix deck
arrived-the Andy Howell model. It
looks like a cross between a Midgett
and a Simpson. It has a blunt nose
like the Midgett and the tapering tail
design of the Simpson. Like other
Schmitt decks, it features strong
wood and a functional design, so you
know you're getting your money's
worth. It is 31½" long, 10" wide, has
a 4% "nose and a standard 6%" tail.
For a board that is over 31" long it
features a maneuverable 15½"
wheelbase. Schmitt Stix, 1395 S

Walker makes Chopstix rails. I
think rails should be thin and light,
but Walker makes them fat and
beety. The design is worthy of men-
tion in that they are angled inward
for "weally gwabbin on doze haiwy
situations. More on Walker decks
and such in the future. For informa

In the past, two things bothered
me: a lack of action photos featur
ing complete set-ups and not
enough selection to choose from.
In the future we will have action
photos as well as cream of the crop
products. This is the first of a new
breed of Product Patrols. Thank
you again, manus, for sending the
stuff. Now how about some feed-
back from the legions of buyers out
there? And lastly, if you want me to
write back, send a SASE, 'cuz I'm
not a rich man. Jake Phelps, co
