Imagine a backyard session wherein we find Reategui, Salba, Murphy, Prince,
Rule, Duncan and Swank. A medium right hand kidney offers them an abundance
of angles topped by square coping.
Salba takes to the lip with haste, thrusting heavy frontside grinds. Finding
an old friend in a new face, Steven slaps it soundly on the back.
Dave Rule pours porridge from the plaster and draws every last drop
from the pool's well of speed: His long, compressed carves burn smoke
whence he goes. Rule flies from the round deep into the shallow steep.
His gait does not waiver when he shoots back for more.
Eddie Reategui rips with the finesse of a backyard aficionado. In one
motion, Reddie powers frontside up a shallow wall, pumps it through a
sharp corner, then into a smooth layback.
For a while the dust settles and the skaters leart back. There is nothing to
fear amid this apartment complex in the spanish ghetto Each skater pays a
dollar and the natives are friendly. Two senoritas sit on a nearby porch. One
methodically runs a brush through the other's dark hair
Meanwhile, wheels roll once more.
Swank flows on and energy builds.
Intent eyes fall back to the bowl while the girls with "bodacious ta-tas"
continue their gab
Across the face wall, Jim Murphy shrieks a gutted grind. Meeting coping
rock solid, he obliterates it beneath his trucks. The Murph gives credence to
the concept of thrash

Two restrained pit bulls groove with the scene behind the steps. Wet tongues
protrude out of open mouths and curious eyes gaze upon the skaters.
Some call it CENSORED, or others, the CENSORED bowl, depending
on who you ask. No one doubts John Gibson wreaks havoc here, but
he does not get up until 3:00 p.m.

As shadows shrink upon tile and vert, it is time to move on. A few
will return, others will only remember. Still, the pool remains.
