All has found a new frontman, ex-Three Car Pile Up mouthpiece
Scott, and the new group has already recorded a new single, "She's
My Ex" for Cruz Records. An album will follow in the spring....
C.O.C. has found a new second guitarist named Pepper. They will
be issuing a self-released 7" featuring Reed on vocals, followed by
the announcement of a long-awaited new frontman. DRI bassist,
Josh Pappe, has left the band. They are currently seeking a replace-

Death Angel has been picked up by Geffen for an up-
coming Lp to be released by summer.. Megadeth producer
Randy Burns will be taking the reins on a new album by Venice
Beach's Excel after he returns from a vacation in Germany during
which he'll be recording the fourth Lp by GDR thrash superstars
Kreator. New Year's Eve at LA's infamous Cat Club found Guns
& Roses dudes Axl and Slash a'riffin' with Dave Mustaine and Dave
Ellefson from Megadeth. Bad-attitude jam indeed... On their
recent European jaunt, Fugazi found an even greater reception than
they've found here in the States. They scored rave write-ups in every
major music paper, including NME, Melody Maker and Sounds.
In December, while DRI were waiting for the jet to depart for their
European tour with Bean-town skaters, Gang Green, drummer Felix
Griffin got in a scuffle with British businessman Richard Lloyd. Lloyd
found it necessary to assault the drunken Griffin, who was evidently
using some rather strong language in front of Lloyd's progeny. Still,
no need for violence, nor for the plane's captain to physically restrain
Felix so Lloyd could get in some more blows. The band was forced
to leave the plane but allowed on one a half-hour later... While
in Rotterdam, Gang Green was rousted out of bed by 100 machine
gun-wielding cops when a ski-masked intruder (aka Mr. Tour Manager
playing a joke) was seen rifling through a bus. The ever-cautious
natives, thinking a bomb was being planted, called in for some heavy.
duty artillery. In Brussels, Belgium, Gang Green held a beer-
chugging contest with a 400-pound goat. Guess who won? Long
time Scream bassist Skeeter Thompson has left the band.
Kingface's Andy Rappaport has been asked to join. Meanwhile,
Kingface drummer Larry Wallace has parted ways with the band.
No word on his replacement yet. Rising D.C. stars Soul-Side
will be touring Europe extensively this spring.
An MTV metal
tour featuring Anthrax and two major notables will be headed out
in early spring. Combat Records will be sponsoring "The
Ultimate Revenge II" U.S. tour as the videotape of the same title
hits the streets. Dark Angel and Death will be featured. From
the ashes of Half-Off comes Haywire, featuring virtually all of Half-
Off's line-up minus guitarist Jim, who is currently spending time
in Visual Discrimination. LA's Burning Tree (heavy soul 'n
blues three-piece) signed with Epic. Good band. Hope to hear some
good vinyl. The Antja Mimes of San Francisco signed with MCA.
(Well, at least they say they're from San Francisco. Nobody in the
City has ever heard of them.) The Insultors' Petey "Ritz" Cor-
ona and Jeff Grosso were asked to be guests on the Gong Show
again for the taping of "Best of the Gong Show." It is to be aired
February or April. Ex-GoGo's guitarist Jane (Weakland) Wieland
gonged them after their set was over. Crazed Canucks D.O.A.
are on the road again. Their recent raucous recital at the I-Beam
in S.F. proved that they definitely have not mellowed with age.
The Adolescents may have lost a little hair, but their musical ability
remains intact. Check 'em out if you can. Anthrax opened for
Ozzy's tired road show at the Oakland Coliseum. Many skates were
seen in the seething skank-pit. Be on the lookout for rising Nor-
Cal noisemakers Wonderful Broken Thing, kind of a cross between
the Violent Femmes and the Cramps. Other bands to see:
Mushroom Helmet-if you're into freedom rock (Cream, Doors, Hen-
drix) the Havealenas, a folksy Stones-type unit usually gigging at
a bar in L.A. called Molly Malone's; Rackets and Drapes (experimen-
tal psychedelia); and Winter Kills (pop hard rock).... Kill For Thrills
Lp is being recorded and will hit stores soon. They have signed with
MCA... Peaceville recording artists Toranaga have reportedly been
picked up by MCA, Danzig is on a crucial touring schedule of
the U.S., recently making a stop in S.F., where the encore saw Kirk
Hammet and James Hetfield (Metallica fame-natch) slinging
guitars to "Halloween 2." Not only was it an incredible show, but
the sound was surprisingly good, too, for a place that's known to
be "mud sound." Is world dominance far off? Watch for Danzig's
new video Twist of Cain....Exodus recently filmed their Toxic Waltz
video at the Fillmore, with chandeliers and everything. The producers
let in about 200 people to form the crowd of stage divers, pit thrashers
and general bangers around the video train tracks. Havoc was the
rule, and Exodus lip-synched their way over and over again through
the song. The audience was basically a who's who of the thrash
metal world, with the likes of Anthrax, M.O.D. and others pacing
the floors. Even local boy, Attitude Andy Andersen, was in true
form, actually directing in the pit. Too bad no one was watching,
since Attitude Adjustment drummer Chris had already wiped out
half the crowd with his "belly flop domino theory" dives. Will all this
be captured on film? Will MTV actually show it? Metallica has
made a video of the song "One," for which they've aquired the rights.
to use clips from the movie "Johnny Got His Gun," which are inter-
spersed in the video. There are two versions of the video, a short
and a long. Also be on the lookout for Metallica 7"'s "One" and
"Eye of the Beholder" hidden in a store near you. Also, congrats
out to James, Kirk, Lars and Jason for being nominated in the best
heavy metal vocal/instrumental part of the Grammy Awards. They
will preform "One" on the Grammy show. And congrats to Jason,
who was married to sweetheart Judy in December in Michigan, so
only one member now left unmarried. Is this a new trend?... Is
it true that Napalm Death has sold over 30,000 copies and are played
on major radio stations in the U.K. at peak hours? Is this the definitive
rush hour music? Relaxation or thrashattacktion? Correction:
In the February '89 issue, the photos in the "Sick of it All," article
(page 85) were taken by B.J. Papas, not J.J. Gonson. Also, in the
March issue (page 83) we incorrectly identified H.R. of the Bad
Brains as J.R. All those J's just make our heads spin.
