Equation #1: Mass (wheels) +
Velocity (20 mph) + Immovable
Object (crack) release of energy, halt
of forward motion.
Equation #2: Mass (human body) +
Velocity (20 mph) continued forward
motion, trajectory altered by gravity,
interrupted by cement.
Equation #3:Mass (soft, warm human
body) + Velocity (20 mph) + Immovable
Object (cold, hard pavement)-
Coefficient Of Friction release of
energy, transfer of flesh from body to
pavement.
Conclusion: Opposites Attract.
It is when seven epidermal layers are
reduced to three square inches of
searing daggers.
It is when you jump up and blow on the
side of your arm where there used to be
skin. Only now there are nothing but bits
of gravel and a glistening whiteness that
will soon turn crimson and shout its
message to your brain: "I'm here and
you cannot make me leave! I'm here to
make you clench your fists and cuss and
no amount of beer or Bactine can
change that fact."
It is when your rear foot misses the
board and you realize that you are not
James Brown, though you cry, "Ow!
Good God!" The tendons in your knees
stretch, then rip and pop like an over-
chewed piece of gum. You simply can-
not shake off the loss of a linkage. You
cannot ignore the fluid as it collects
behind your kneecap.
It is when there's an egg on your shin,
an orange on your hip, pepper in your
palms and beef jerky on both elbows.
It is when part of your shin suddenly
has more concave than your board and
the agony erupts straight up into your
gut. Shin-shots are instant nausea.
I can't teach you how to skate, the
pavement will teach you how to skate.
