Summer is here and hopefully that
means you will have lots of time to
enjoy some serious skating. So,
without much more of my dribble,
let's see what our product showcase
has to offer this month.
First, we'll take a look at some of
the new Gordon & Smith line. The
three decks that G&S sent are sure
to be popular because they have new
molds (concave), new graphics and,
you guessed it, new colors. The new
mold makes for a very deep concave
and one of the steepest upturned
noses in the business. The tri-tail
design that they use is not as deep
as some of the others on the market,
but all in all it makes for a smooth,
comfortable ride. Neil Blender has
designed his new shape as a con-
tinuum of his old, with a blunt nose
and thinner tail area which I am sure
has sold many decks in the past. The
new concave makes it that much bet
ter. It measures 31%" long, 10" wide,
and has a massive 4%" nose for all
of those up-front maneuvers.
The next deck on the chopping
block is the Danny Webster, which
has the same feel to it as the Blender
but the shape has a little wider tail
and a notched, rounded nose. It is
just under 31" long, 10%" wide,
with 3% of nose and a 7" tail. Of
all the decks I got the newest is the
Bill Tocco, a fresh pro with a new
shape. The Tocco model has smooth
contours highlighted by a killer stain
and a little width in the rear truck
impact zone. Tocco's deck measures
30%" long, 10%4" wide, a very stan
dard 3% nose and a 6½" tail. All
of these decks come with cool
screens and graphics and even have
front wheel wells. The boards holdi
up well under abuse, and I would im-
agine that they are available in mini
sizes as well. Write to Henry Hester
at G&S Skateboards, 7081 Consol
dated Way, San Diego, CA 92121-2604
and he will give you the necessary
information.
One of the most unique decks now
available is a composite graphite,
pencil lead colored deck made by
Composite Craft of Orlando, Florida.
The graphite material reminds me of
the old fiberglass Bahne boards of
yore, really thin but relatively stiff-
even stiffer than fiberglass, so it may
have some possibilities, especially in
tandem with a foam or honeycomb
core. Anyway, the deck design incor-
porates very little concave and a
slight tail, so I doubt if it will be a
highly marketable product. The
board was not drilled, which kind of
set me back, but maybe they didn't
want me to ride it. At 29½" long by
1014" wide they seem to be headed
in the right direction. Write to Com
posite Craft Inc., 2400 Sand Lake
Road, Orlando, FL 32809.
Next, in the amazing trinket.
department, is the Rad Rack by
Innovative Concepts Unlimited.
The Rad Rack is designed to hold
your skate on a door or wall so that
it does not get in the way when you

are not using it. I don't know who
thinks these things up, but whoever
it is probably doesn't skate. It is a
piece of stainless steel with two wim-
py hooks welded on to hold one of
your trucks. It comes complete with
adhesive strip to hang securely, but
the price is the real deal, only $24.95
The pamphlet that tells all about it
says, "Hang it on the way in, grab
it on the way out." Innovative
Concepts Unlimited, 30100 Town
Center Dr., Suite 77320, Laguna
Niguel, CA 92677.
The next wonderful device is the
"hot" new product from Eastern
Skateboard Supply, the Fire Fin. The
product is simply five burly flints im-
bedded in a skid plate. The most
practical use for such a product is
night riding. We all know how
dangerous street skating is at night,
so Fire Fins were born. When you ap-
proach a hairy intersection and you
don't think the cars will see you, bust
a fat wheelie and emit a thick rooster-
tail of sparks. Billed as the first skate
"pyrotechnic device," with a patent
pending, it reminds me of G&S'
Speed Sparks. But that's another
story. T-bolts hold 'em on, you grind
'em off. Write to Salvo Incorporated,
PO Box 97425, Raleigh, NC 27642.
In reference to these last three
companies, notice that the names all
have Concepts, Unlimited and Incor-
porated in them. What this means is
that they are fhto many different
things, including skateboarding. Bot-
tom line is that they are out for your
cash. Remember, ideas come and
go, quality lasts.
That is another month's worth of
stuff to check out. Don't let life pass
you by. Later, guys and gals. Enjoy
the summer, okay? Send all
products, gripes and ideas to
