Spotted at Fangoria's horror weekend at the Hyatt
by the L.A. airport was Dave Vanian of the
Damned and his wife, who flew out from England
just for this convention of gore aficionados. Miss-
ing the convention was Glenn Danzig, who flew
back to New Jersey to perform the live premiere
of the new Danzig group. Glenn was in L.A. mix-
ing his new Lp with Rick Rubin. The Lp will in-
clude guest backing vocals by Metallica members,
who are also in the L.A. area finishing up their new
Lp before heading out on the massive Monsters
of Rock stadium tour. This major event will feature
Shadowland
performances by Van Halen, Scorpions, Dokken,
Metallica and Kingdom Come. Summer will also
bring Iron Maiden's last tour, as they will be hang
ing up the towel after this one.... Nearly ten years
ago Patti Smith married an MC5er and checked
out of the music scene. Well, she's back with a
new Lp which should be an interesting plat-
ter....Over the course of their farewell tour, before
changing their monicker to Vee Max, the
Meatmen, featuring ex-Dove guitarist Stuart
Casson on lead, recorded a full-length live Lp for
release later this year. Plus, watch for the comedy
extravaganza of 1988, namely Way U.S.A., the new
half-hour MTV show hosted by none other than
Tesco Vee, with background music provided by
those everloving Meatmen. MTV will never be the
same after this Vee lash. Will Tesco rant and rave
about Abba? Could this be a stepping stone to a
new career for the Vee one? Be sure to watch the
crazed antics of this Dutch Hercules. D.R.I.
have released a long form video entitled Live at
the Ritz. They will start touring the US in July and
Europe in September. Coven, the pure satanic,
comedy core outfit, are having a hard time get-
ting their new Lp, Blessed is the Black, onto music
store shelves because of a controversial cover, So
the label, Ever Rat has put together a contest, to
find a description of 25 words or less that makes
the cover out to be something other than it really
is or something acceptable to major chain stores.

and will both sing and play bass, at least for the
recording of their next album.... On the
Exploited's last stop in New York, Boston high
stickers Slapshot caused quite a ruckus as Wattie
and the boys refused to play with Choke and crew,
who were scheduled to open the Exploited's Rock
Hotel gig at the Ritz. Exclaiming that Slapshot
skinheads were chasing them throughout the
nation and causing them grief at all their gigs, the
Exploited were notably apprehensive about their
New York City billing. The cause of the problem
can be traced to a Slapshot t-shirt proclaiming
Punk's dead...you're next" over a picture of
Wattle's screaming face which ihs surrounded by
a rifle sight. Nonetheless, both bands played on
a bill with the Zero Boys and Raw Deal....7
Seconds are rumored to be relocating to South
Carolina after many years in their home town of
Reno. When the new Lp will be out is anybody's
guess. Marginal Man have broken up.. After
signing a one-Lp deal with IRS, Nuclear Assault
are recording Survive with Megadeth producer
Randy Burns.. Dischord's next release will be
an Lp by Fire Party, DC's all-girl powerhouse.
Fugazi have been recording a future Dischord
release at Inner Ear. Meanwhile, Soulside will be
releasing their next Lp on Sammich. It will feature
a cover of Bob Marley's "War"
