Communication
"Music's the oldest form of
protest there is," says Scream
vocalist Peter Stahl. "We aren't
creating politics, we are singing
about them."
Hailing back to the Washing-
ton DC underground's earliest
days, Scream has long been a
potent voice of frustration and
protest. Their latest release,
Banging the Drum (Dischord)
represents eight years of honest,
often joyous communication in
the world-wide underground
music scene.
The members of Scream are
not system-fighting punks. Their
attack on the ignorance of a blind
society is intelligent and concise
without excessive sloganeering,
though there is more emphasis
on message than music.
BRUCE RHODES
Guitarists Franz Stahl and
Robert Lee Davidson create
powerful strains as they alter-
nately unleash Marshall-laden
muscle and pensive din. Drum-
mer Kent Stax keeps the rhythms
solid as the vocals of Skeeter
Thompson and Peter Stahldrip.
with soul.
