is way strong and ecologically
economical. Well, I got to thinking
that if we had ceramic skate
bearings, we could skate in the rain
and nothing could stop us!! I'm
psyched for the day the skaters catchi

In the January issue it was said
that the Cedar Crest Ramp was
burned down. Well, the locals are the
only ones who have been burning
anything, and it's not wood. The only
thing that has been melting are the
trucks of Laurence, Hound Dog. "8-
hit" Blair, Umble, Marcus, Billy Smith
and many others.
Cool Runnings.

PS. The Hell Ramp is in no danger.
Thanks to Ed, it always will be there.
We knew that. We just figured it would
thin out the crowds a bit. Ted
BE TRUE TO YOUR MAG
Okay, this is good. A couple of
weeks ago me and a couple of guys
got a petition and a lot of names and
gave it to the librarian. Now guess
what? The school subscribes to
THRASHER. Yep! Now I'm sitting
here in my once boring 3rd period
study hall reading the December
issue! Neat, eh?

GOES TO SHOW YOU
The other day, due to snow, I was
inside watching Jeopardy on TV. The
$500 sports question was "The rider
in this sport can use a Gonz, Hawk
or Stonefish." Well, of course, none
of the so-called smart contestants got
the question, but I'll let you decide

I am the parent of a fanatical skater

parents: If you want your kid to read

DO WHAT YOU LIKE!
I have to say this. I'm really sick
of pros complaining about today's
skaters. They keep on saying we
don't know what's right. It's all
skating. It's just what you like. Maybe
skating did start with just power
slides and carves, but now it's
changing. Accept it. Today's skaters
like the new stuff. So, stop saying we
don't know what we're doing.

SKATEBOARD BLUES
The other day my parents road my
latest issue of THRASHER. They got
onto me for the words they read in
Mail Drop. They were going to cancel
my subscription, but I talked them out
of it. Damn, I wish parents weren't so
nosey. Also, I was writing "haiku"
(poems) and my parents read them
and told me to change them. They
piss me off. My teacher has a
problem, too. She took me outside
and gave me a lecture on the clothes.
I wear, the music I listen to and what
I like to do (which is skate). She told
me she didn't know why I had
changed. Ever since I started
skating, everyone has been on my
case, except my friends

There is a way to turn teachers and
parents into friends, but it takes many
years of hard work. You'W know when
you've done it. Hang tough. Ted
CROSSOVER
We had a school dance and I
thought I would liven it up a bit. So
I handed the DJ the new Metallica
Lp, Garage Days Re-revisited, and he
played the 7-minute long "Helpless"
and the crowd loved it. Stuck-up
people, nerds, metal heads,
skaters-they all loved it. I was
touched.

GRAM SLAM
Just the other day my mom and
dad bought me a new skateboard for
X-mas and I went to my grand-
mother's for the week and took it with
me. I was skating around trying to
impress my grandmother with allies
and handplants, and, boy, was she
impressed. The next day, while I was
at school, my grandmother got my
skateboard out and tried to ride it.
She fell off it and broke her left arm.
How's that for a story? I'm not
allowed to ride my skate anymore.
Any suggestions?

LITTLE OL LADY FROM WEST
COVINA
Your mag has sure helped a lot of
kids. You know, with the "skate
mom letters. My two younger
brothers (13 & 16) are a good
example. Before the "skate mom"
letters they couldn't leave the
driveway. But they persisted in
showing her statements in the mag
made by "skate moms" and it paid
off. Now they are allowed four hours
to skate wherever they want, every
night. So on their behalf, thanks. But
further, I want to tell you about at
Skate Gram Sunday, December
6, was the "Skateboarding is not a
Crime" demo in Ontario, CA. Well,
the three of us had been stoked for
the entire week before, but I had car
trouble the day of the event and we
were all pretty bummed out. Then,
an hour before the demo was to
begin. my brother hollared out,
"Rosco is here and his grandma is
with him!" To make a long story.
short, we knew he was going to the
demo. This older lady had a %-ton
camper, sandwiches for an army, two
cases of cold drinks and nine wild
and stoked skate (Coned on page 127)
