What have you worked on so
far?
Police Academy IV, no acting
involved, just skateboarding.
What did they call it, stunt...?
Stunt players is what we were
called. I did another movie,
"Gleaming The Cube" which
should be out next summer. In
that one, my name is Sam. How's
that! Pretty funny, and I had
some speaking parts. I'm a
friend of the main character. The
character actor is a regular actor,
but me and Tony (Hawk) both got
parts. Tony's name is Buddy in
the movie. He works at Pizza
Hut. He had to wear this Pizza
Hut suit, it was classic. Pizza Hut
doesn't even deliver and he
played a delivery boy.
What's the synopsis of
Gleaming The Cube?
Well, four of us are friends with
the main kid. His adopted
brother gets killed. They say it
was suicide. It's a mystery type.
movie, but they show he's a
hardcore skater. That's part of his
life, he's like a punk type. So they
show us skating and stuff. I don't
know if it's going to be good or
what. The director was Graham
Clifford, who directed that movie.
"Francis" with Jessica Lang.
He's a really good director, a
really nice person too.
What is your middle name?
Marc with a C. My real name is
Thomas. And everyone, if you
want to start calling me Thomas,
that's fine.
wife and gerbils?"
Is that part of that skater thing,
where you're always a kid,
always have an excuse?
When do you decide when to
grow up? Do you go, "Oh shit,
I better grow up now."? And then
you grow a mustache and all, you
meet a nice lady.
A lot of people end up trying
to recapture or stay a kid
anyway, but if you can do it,
why not?
Some people can't stay a kid. It's
like responsibility sets in. And
that's kinda hard. Responsibility
to me is like, should I clean my
dishes today. Nahhh, I'll be okay.
Should I go to the doctor and get
some glasses? Nahhh. Because
I can't see, I'm blind. What the
heck. It's so easy to shine off
responsibilities when you don't
have any, you just go, well, I'll just
go skate.
Does that ever bug you in
itself?
Oh, fully. It fully bugs the shit out
of me because I'm such a flake.
I'm all, "Frosted Corn."
Do you think skaters are a pret-
ty creative bunch, though, on
the whole? Even the youngest,
most clueless little kid?
Fully. They have something to
say and it's good. Everyone has
something else, too. It's killer.
Like a lot of skaters draw also, a
lot of skaters play music, a lot of
skaters have so many other
things going on at the same time.
Take photos, write stories, cook
food, do shipping, or, even
occasionally, go out with a girl
(laughs). Miniature golf, you
know, dorking about. Big golf.
Skaters are psyched, they're
crazy. Whatever they do,
whatever aspect, they always try
to do it to the limit.
Is it going to be Tom, now?
I don't know. Yeah, now I'm
getting older, but I don't want to
be called Tom. Tom sounds so
white, upper-middle class. "Tom,
how was work today? How's the
"Skating is not for macho jocks who are proud to balance 100-pound rocks."
