TELL-TALE
My friend and I were sitting in
science class the other day doing our
work. My friend had a copy of your
mag under his arm at our table. The
teacher saw it and took it away, say-
ing that our work was distracted by
it. We protested to the principal and
not only did the science teacher have
to
buy another mag, but she also had
to admit that we got good grades and
we were doing our work when she
saw us. The message is: If you think
that you're being ragged on for
skating, tell somebody. You may be
in for a big surprise.

PS. This is the second time I've writ-
ten. The science teacher saw the first
letter and trashed it.
HAIR LIP
It's time to band together and stop
this threat to humanity known as
"heavy metal." I've started an organ-
ization called S.A.H.P.I.M. (Society
Against Hair Parted In the Middle).
Right now we're having our plastic
explosive drive. Send your contribu-
tions to the head-banger nearest you.
Or, you can send your cash pledge
to my house. Thanks for your time.
Destroy what you can't change.

IT'S YOU
The other day I was in the store
reading the normal heavy metal b.s.
(Shit Parader, Feces, etc.) and just
when I was contemplating going
sane for boredom's sake, I saw a
THRASHER. I decided it couldn't be
worse, so I opened it and proceeded
to read it cover to cover. Now, I don't
skate, probably couldn't even get on
a board and come out of it alive, but
I would like to say that if I was Shirley
MacLaine, I'd shoot myself and be
reborn to skate. Sorry for imposing.

BONGO LESSON
Some friends and I were skating
our half in my backyard. Everything
was going great until we coaxed
Andy into dropping in. (He never
skated a half before.) The first time
he bailed on his pads. The second
time, on the way down, he moved his
front foot to the middle of the board.
The board shot out and he slammed
on his head and back. He slid to the
bottom and went into a convulsion.
We told him to stop kidding around,
but when I saw his eyes roll back, I
ran inside to get my mom (a nurse).
We covered his body with jackets and
shirts and called an ambulance. Out-
side, Andy was snoring and spitting
up mucus while unconscious. A cop
came and the twitching stopped. A
few minutes later an ambulance
arrived. They asked him some ques-
tions and put in an IV, then took him
away a little while later. He was very
lucky all he got was a concussion.
If he wasn't wearing a helmet he'd
definitely be dead. I don't think we're
going to forget what happened and
always wear our helmets.

HARD QUESTION
My friends and I are bothered by
the one thing we don't know about
skating. What the hell does A mean,
as in 95A or 97A? And don't say it just
means how hard the wheels are.

I think it means "Almost" or "Around
There," something like that. Ted
GUN FUN
Last summer I was skating with
seven or eight friends on my ramp
on the sidewalk. I was passing a
neighbor's driveway on my way to
launch when he came out and
peacefully said to move the ramp or
stay out of his driveway. Well, my
friends felt rebellious and asked why.
This made him mad and they started
cursing at each other, very loudly.
Well, this aroused my friend's mother
and she came out of the house. By
this time the man had come back out
of the house with a rifle. Needless to
say, my friends tried to keep the argu-
ment up when he was making
threats, seriously, deadly threats. The
mother went back into the house and
called the cops. She came back out
and said that the cops said to get in
the house. Five minutes later the
cops arrived with two of them patrol-
ling the block on foot with a shotgun.
Anyway, he was arrested and the
cops lectured us and told us to skate
in the street. By the way, the man was
released the next day.

CANDY FROM STRANGERS
My friends and I skate a lot in our
neighborhood and most of the
people dislike us and our noise. On
the corner there is a big house where
a doctor lives, and he watches us
skate our street ramp sometimes.
Well, one day we came out and he
asked us if we ever tried to skate a
half-pipe. We said, "No, we want to,
but there aren't any around here and
we don't have the money to build
one." Then he told us he would build
us one in his backyard, but it would
take a few weeks. I wrote this letter
to show my appreciation to all the
people who give (Continued on page 16)
