            SESSIONS
SNOWBOARD SHOP
PRODUCT
by Jake Phelps
We have received quite a few pro-
ducts this month and all of them are i
popular. First, we'll review the new
Dogtown line.
A long time ago, before the ollie
and the ho-ho, Dogtown was making
decks. Most skaters today don't
realize that buying a deck back then
(before 1978) was different from to-
PATROL
at the new line of Dogtown decks. At
first glance, the Aaron Murray
"Fingers" model looks kind of like the
old Web deck, with notches in the
side up to the nose. It is the longest
9%4" wide, with 3" of nose, a 6½"
tail and a 14%" wheel base. All of the
Dogtown decks have excellent stain
and paint jobs, real professional work
by a company that has been around
you slam, but at least it has
everything. This two-piece plastic
assembly system is for the con-
noisseur of skating. Gullwing

CA, 92020.
Lastly, we turn to New York City
Skateboards. These guys have
finally released a limited edition of
Keith Haring designs on basic blanks.

day because there was no standard
style or shape. There were many
choices: aluminum, fiberglass or
wood board with camber, flex, rocker,
kick or flat tail. There were so many
choices in fact, that you often got rip-
ped off because it was difficult to
make a good choice. Believe it or not,
some decks weren't drilled for trucks;
you bought a deck hoping that the
shop where you bought it had equip-
ment to mark and drill the board.
Well, about 1978, while most peo-
ple were riding thin, 7½" to 8" wide
boards. Dogtown was already mak-
ing wide boards. Ten inches was con-
sidered massive; in fact everyone
called them "pigs." I'm not saying
Dogtown was the first company to
make these wide boards, but they
had about four pro models with
widths between nine and ten inches.
Enough of the old stuff. Let's look
of the line, and it might be better for
the bigger skater out there. The
"Fingers" is 31" long, 10%" wide,
with 3% of nose, a 6%" tail and a
15% wheel base.
Next up, the Eric Dressen
signature decks, large and small.
These boards have the classic shape
with wider tails. The large deck is 30"
long, 10" wide, with 3" of nose, a
6½ tail and a 15%" wheel base.
The smaller board is 294" long.
9%4" wide, with 3" of nose, a 6%"
tail and a 15" wheel base.
We also received the most recent
Dogtown pro model by Micke Alba.
The larger vertical shape has blunt,
squared edges on the tail for impact
resistance and little notches in the
nose for hand placement. It is 30%"
long, 10" wide, with 3" of nose, a
64" tail and a 15%" wheel base.
The smaller board is 29%" long.

Gullwing has developed what they
think is the ultimate skate tool kit, The
Six Pack. This tool is a two-piece
combo wheel wrench, truck wrench
and nut driver for your baseplate
bolts. It's accompanied by phillips
and standard screw tips and even an
allen wrench assembly fixture in
another all-in-one tool. Both come in
a pouch that hangs from your belt,
which might not feel so good when
The one sent this way looks a lot like
a Lance Mountain shape. It features
a very slight concave through the
nose and tail. We liked the white base
coat that offsets the basic Haring
graffito with three-legged skaters,
snakes and circles and X's. Be sure
to get rails to preserve the artwork.
And wouldn't ya know, NYC Skates
makes these as well. Send for a
catalog of their hew rail, tail and hard-
ware line. New York City Skateboards,

I test the products that manufac
turers send, or at least try to, but how
can I possibly review one long rail or
one short rail? If you want your pro-
duct to be properly reviewed, send
something I can ride. Okay? Send all
products and correspondence to:
