            EASTERN
EDEN
Geographically speak-
ing, it's easier for a West
Coast magazine to cover
West Coast skaters.
Realistically speaking,
California is no longer the
center of the skating
universe; just ask the
Texans, the Europeans
and, especially, the East
Coasters.
Coverage and photos
by Bonnie Blouin
For the past several
months, intrepid skate
reporter Bonnie Blouin has
been digging into the roots
of the various East Coast
scenes and has come up
with a few fossils as well as
many new sprouts. ►

JOISEY PARADISE
SKMIK
The place is Brick Township,
New Jersey. If you're looking for
backbone, you'll find it. The scene
is pulsating with old and new blood.
Forget about all the wisecracks and
bad jokes-New Jersey is happening.
Take a moment to ponder the last
few days of yet another pool that is
slated to bite the blade.
It's a city pool, Olympic-
size and square, but
transitioned. The
deep end has
rounded corners,
and it's grindable on
all four sides because
of a two-foot ledge right
where the vertical walls
begin. So you've
got eight-foot
deep➤
