enough, huh? Powell sex kit. That I'm not
sure about but it is rumored that Thrasher

do you think it's better to push with your
back foot or your front foot?

Your back foot, because you have more
board control with your front foot and
front truck. These days, the more ver-
satile street rodent should learn to push
with either foot.
SWELL MEL
I'm a girl, age 15. I want to learn how to
skate a half-pipe. I've tried once or twice but
can't seem to get the moves right. Another
problem is finding one to learn on. The other
skaters, mostly guys, don't want to watch.

tried to get my dad to build me one but he
says, "No, I don't want those guys hanging
in my back yard or my swimming pool." Any

Sorry, babe. I know it's rough, but no
one has it easy. All you can do is what
you can do. Got it? If you really dig
skating, then I'm sure you'll continue.
Find a ramp, skate it, and tell anyone who
hassles you to bite it. You might want to
wait until no heavy session is happening,
or else be prepared to hang tough and
learn how to snake. If you don't know
what snaking is you're not ready for a
heavy session. Just be mellow and con-
centrate as though skating was your life's
breath. Oh, yeah, don't forget to have fun.
ROCKY ROAD
Whenever I oil my bearings it sounds like
there are a whole bunch of rocks in there.

The problem is you probably do have
a bunch of rocks in there. Light oil breaks
down the grease that keeps 'em running
smooth. Best bet is to buy new ones.
They can be cleaned, but it should be
done in a controlled environment. You
have to pop the seals and work 'em with
a toothbrush, solvent, etc.-a real mess.
So do yourself a favor, either keep riding.
'em 'til they fall apart, or chuck 'em.
PUBERTY PROBLEMS
I am about 5' 10" tall and taller than most
skaters. Lately I've been having trouble
doing some tricks that I could do before.
What I want to know is, how can I adjust to
growing taller? Is that why this problem is
happening? How long does this usually take
to adjust for most skaters? Is this just a
slump and I should just wait till I'm out of
it? What should I do? Should I get a bigger
or longer deck? Does height really matter?

I think you're making excuses about
your own lameness. Concentrate on
skating and practice instead of laying
blame. Height has nothing to do with it.
If you can skate, you can skate. Just ask
guys like Neil Blender, Tony Hawk or
Gregg Ayres and others who are six foot
plus and rip it up regardless.
