for autographs. A sticker pasting contest got
under way but was cancelled when several
pros hurled products and stickers over the
side of the garage. The resulting greed
stampede was quite entertaining as grom-
mets battled for prizes. Meanwhile, Grosso
accidently set off someone's car alarm.
Eventually the police decided to eject every
person who had committed the terrible
crime of possessing a skateboard (out of the
garage and back out into the rain) while
somewhere else in St. Louis, a violent crime
was being committed. As the wait con-
tinued, pros passed a petition among their
peers urging the NSA to split up the $20,000
between the pros if the contest was can-
celled. That was the easy way out for
everybody except Christian Hosoi and

already.
Elsewhere, the NSA met to discuss the
rain, the contest or possible lack of contest.
The NSA were considering moving the con-
test to the ramp at the Midwest SK8 Camp
on Monday. Hours seemed to last weeks as
we waited for something to happen.
While most people thought the contest
was going to be cancelled, that hip chick.
Ma Nature came through, stopping the rain
and wind and pulling the sun out to help dry
the ramp. Mom got some help with the ramp
from NSA officials who found an industrial-
sized blow dryer to speed things up and
several skaters fakied on the ramp to
squeeze moisture out of the masonite.
There was going to be a contest after all.
The ramp had the typical, high-quality,
Tim Payne design and construction. But this
was not a typical ramp. While yes, it was
32' wide and 12' high with 12' of vert, the
transitions varied from 82' to 10% Cor-
respondingly the flat bottom varied from 14.
to 16 feet. There were 8' long extensions
on either side of the ramp which were only
8 inches higher than the rest of the ramp.
The coping was metal and skating surface
was masonite, which took on the look and
feel of a small mogul field after repeated
soakings.
