GOOD CLEAN FUN
In the face of paranoid heighbors, vindictive cops,
simple-minded jocks and similar skater-haters, and in an
effort to escape the humdrum, mind-sucking tedium of
bad weather, more and more home-locked skaters began
to turn from the streets and ramps toward simpler, more
economical models of enlightenment. Companies devoted
to mini-models not just meant for Barbie and Ken began
to surface. Leggo and Lincoln Log ramps sprang up. Kit-
chen sinks with harsh transitions were snubbed in favor of
perfect backyard birdbaths. Contests were held, rules
were established, idols were boosted to stardom and
organizations were formed, all documented by a deluge of
photos through the mail. Then it happened. Fingerboard-
ing died as quickly as it was born. From an idea to a
trend to a laugh, all in one fell swoop. Photos of once-hot
Tommy-Tronic (R.1.P.) by Kent Rayhill of Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
