We know, we know, everybody
wants to know about the new Rector
pads. Well, we've got some and we're
gonna tell you all about them. Rector
has always made the most depend-
able safety equipment and they
didn't let us down with the Aggressor
series. The elbow pads don't look dif-
ferent from those of the previous
series, but the knee pads are radi-
cally improved. For starters, each one
has a removable inner pad for easy
maintenence and cleaning. They
have four velcro straps instead of two.
The bottom two straps attach behind
the knee, while the top half has one
strap behind and one that circles all
the way around to the front. These
pads are lightweight and a good bit
longer for the control and protection
that skaters need on knee slides.
Rector also sent us some shin
guards that look like Spandex but
have padding in the critical areas. So
check 'em out at your local shop. We
haven't seen any recaps, but we'll let
you know if we do. Any way you look
at it, Rector's got you covered.
Rector, 586 Martin #6, Rohnert Park,
CA 94928.

We also got a look at the new City
Grinders. It's no secret who makes
these wheels: Kryptonics, the wheel
company that has been making killer
street wheels for almost ten years.
Not that long ago the larger City
Street wheel was very popular
because it had a smooth ride and a
very stable riding surface. Times
change and so must the wheels we
ride. These grinders still come with
a nylon hub to keep your bearings
from popping out. Now it's centered
between two nicely rounded wheel
edges that provide better wheel fit on
wider trucks and even wear.
Buckwheat says that they are 90's
but they feel more like 88's. Once you
get them to slide, they do it nicely and
evenly and don't make a lot of noise.
Lots of colors. lots of choices.

Bushings are usually the most
overlooked component on one's
board-until now. Most bushings are
cold-poured and cannot withstand
the abuse that most people put them
through. But now Supercush is here.
Hot-poured like the wheels we ride,
they will easily last as long as two or
three decks. They come in two
durometers, 90 and 94 for loose or
tight trucks. To buy these bushings
is to make an investment in the
future. Supercush, PO Box 884234,

The newest Schmitt board came
our way and it looks pretty funky but,
like all of their products, very
rideable, durable and well made. It's
called the Rip-Saw, and unlike most
cutaway boards that stop halfway
down the side, it has cutaway hand
notches that run all the way down the
length of the board. While looking
over this deck, you may see a col
ored laminate in the ply. Thinking it
might have been some extra strong
laminate, we called Paul Schmitt and
he said, "purely cosmetic." This
board comes with a killer die cut tape
and saw blade graphic that looks
great. The numbers on this axe are:
30.5" length and a little over 10" at
its widest, a 3.25" nose, a 15.25"
wheel base and a 6.5" tail. Another
mentionable factor here is the
Schmitt board's 15 degree tail and
additional 8 degree kicker on the last
inch of the deck for keeping your foot
secure. Schmitt Stix, 1711 Whittier
Ave., Costa Mesa, CA 92627
Alva Products sent us two of their
new pro models, and we know they
are sure sellers. The boards, a Bill
Danforth and a Chris Cook, are both
stained wood with excellent con-
cave tails. It may take a while to get
used to these tails, but when you do,
other "regular" tails just won't stack
up. The Danforth is the narrower of
the two, but it does not have as much
of a cut-away shape. Dimensions are
10" x 30", with 3" of nose, 6.5" of tail

and a 15" wheel base. The Cook, on
the other hand, has a more fish-like
shape at 10.25" wide by 30" long
with 3.25" of nose, 6" of tail, and a
15.5" wheel base. These new Alva
decks are the best they have ever
made. Hey, where are the naturals
