THE BERTLEMAN SLIDE ON VERT
by Don Pendleton
1. Approach the transition as you would
for a frontside grind.
2. Drop to a crouching position as you
come close to the transition. Plant your
leading hand on the surface and let
your board and body continue to extend
toward the lip.
3. At this point, control the sliding board
with the toes of your front foot. This will
allow you to extend your legs and guide
the board in the proper direction as the
tail whips around.
4. As you descend the wall, bring your
board back under your torso with your
legs and begin to compress them. (If
you remain extended, you'll slide out.)
5. Push away from the transition as you
ride down it in a crouch, then straighten
out as you pump toward the next wall.
CESS SLIDE WALL RIDE
By Scott Oster
This trick is a fairly common maneuver
on pool and ramp walls. It is described
here for vertical walls with a street ramp,
however this trick is not impossible
without the use of one.
1. Approach the launch ramp like you
are going to do a frontside wall ride or
kick turn.
2. When you hit the wall and get up
aways, unweight your feet enough to
slide the back end of your board around
in the opposite direction.
3. Continue your slide and stay centered
over the board, especially as you bring
the front around and prepare to land.
4. Lift up the front wheels as you come
off the wall. This will help you power
down and off of the non-existant transi-
tion. Follow through and compress your
knees to absorb the shock upon
landing.
