CAMBODIA RAMP
arched Andrechts on the extensions, high
airs, extremely consistant lines. Someone
mentioned a gay twist and an Elguerial were
seen in one of his runs. There was no ques-
tion as to the winner of the 20 and over jam.
"The wild man," Kurt Bondenschatz, floated
all over the ramp with extremely stylish lines,
high and drifted frontsides, laybacks on the
extension, long grinds and bombed
Cambodia with Indy airs from nearly five feet
at times. Style and power were the key to
this man's successful slot at first.
Although not nearly as many sponsored
skaters showed up this year, the ones that
did left a great many jaws gaping and
drooling. Not in the top eight but skating up.
a storm were Paul Schneider alley-ooping
everything and lapping backside axles; Paul
Schmitt, a finder of frolic, on his three-foot
"yard stick;" Chris Griffiths, pulling Miller
flips and soaring ollies; and Jim O'Brien,
a definite favorite, with stretched layback
grinds to tail. Those who made the top eight
cut included:
ROBERT TAYLOR-Just exactly what it was
Rob did is unclear to me now. I do, however,
recall some expertly handled sketchiness,
and many questions as to his sanity. I also
remember some unfortunate bails that put
him in an honorable eighth place.
Lester
boneless ones, although no mere trick, were
more like extremely contorted frontside foot-
plants and a bit less impressive than they're
cracked up to be. That is, of course, until
he did them over the channel. Don't label
this guy as the boneless man until you see
him contort inverts and Andrechts, and
method more than necessary at six feet.
Yeah, he's good...real good. Sixth
belonged to Rodney.
MARK WILSON - Even though he wasn't
skating like his usual self, Mark Wilson
skated hard consistently, completing
backside airs, overly-flapped Andrechts with
the board reversed at times, Texas plants,
backside boneless ones, and varial
Andrechts. A five spot for a really nice guy
who skates because he wants to.
LONNY REITER-Still a little shaken, Lonny
skated with more power than expected. He
threw his large frame into contorted inverts,
sadplants, high airs, lien air walks, frontside
tail stalls, and something I don't think many
appreciated, a tail stall over the roll-in.
Watch for this guy in the near future,
because he definitely has one.
MARK BUNCY-I saw Mark skate in a demo
two years ago. That two years has made
more than a difference. Mark is the new
definition for the words powerhouse and
aggressive. He abused every part of the
ramp, stabbing such sickness as 50/50's
clear across the steel pipe, extension to
extension, iceplants and sadplants high to
low, and airs of all sorts. The minds of those
who experienced his power, bled. The
judges gave him third, the crowd gave him.
RODNEY MEAD His "hyper-extended" cheers of praise, and Paul Schmitt gave him
LENNY BYRD Took to the ramp with
violent velocity, and sampled the atmo-
sphere several times. Low to high even.
Several bails haunted his runs as well,
placing him seventh.

a lot of attention. Board dimensions were
apparently part of the conversation.
SERGIO VENTURA-Sergie has improved
beyond any sort of comprehension since
last year's Ramp Jam in which he busted
his wrist. Now sponsored, Serge came
down to Florida to assault the humid air with
gay twists, Saran Wraps, method liens,
Madonnas and nose bones. He also pro-
duced eggplants and twisted inverts rather
routinely-for second.
JEFF JONES - There's no way to describe
this guy other than bionic. Although Jeff
produces nearly identical lines on each ride,
they are enough to blow the strongest of
minds. Hyper-boned frontsides, mirages,
finger-flip inverts and laybacks, varial
anything, and contortions-well heck, he
does that to everything. Such sickness
should never go unrewarded. First place he
deserved. First place he received.
Mike McGill showed up and demded for
the audience. I was surprised and delighted
to hear fewer calls of "Twist, twist, twist..."
Sure he did 'em, three in fact, but it was neat
to see that that wasn't all that the crowd
wanted. A turn in the right direction to my
mind. Products were tossed and battled for.
One kid ran up the transition and launched
into the crowd after a set of Rectors. I
laughed from my throne of safety on the
platform as people trampled each other for
pieces of plastic that we tossed over the lip.
Those who showed to spectate, and
especially all the skaters that entered,
deserve a hand or two for making the third
Cambodia Ramp Jam yet another weekend
of fun.
