On the left we have Eddie Elguera,
a man who helped put the word bionic
in skater vocabulary. During the Gold
Cup series of 1979-80, Ed was seen
doing side-to-side, eye-level backside
airs out of Marina Skatepark's upper
keyhole. Eddie brought vertical stunt
skating to acrobatic heights with his
innovative board handling and jaw-
less execution. He was, for a time,
unbeatable in the pro ranks. Eddie.
eyeballs Ken Fillion (way above), a
young amateur hotshoe from
Houston, Texas, who is blasting a
modern mute air out of the metal
halfpipe at the Shut Up and Skate
jam. While Eddie has already been
at the top, Ken is definitely on this way
there. Photo by Kevin J. Thatcher.
