APRIL 1987 VOLUME 7 NUMBER 4
MED
COVER: In the vast wasteland between the Sier-
ra Madre range and the Rocky Mountains les
the smooth desert belly of mother nature. Even
here, suburban sprawl grows unchecked across
the fragile environment; fueled by water projects
that spare nothing in their path. Like parasites
on a fresh kill, a sturdy breed of skaters venture
into these badlands to feed on the carcasses of
man's excess. One structure, described as the
"Stonehenge" of skateable architecture was
built as a backdrop for a car commercial shoot.
Desert skater, Brian Brannon, clings like a lizard
on a hot rock below the unattainable edge of the
man-made monolith. Photo by Bryce Kanights.
CONTENTS: Couch skating sessions are get-
ting wild these days as serious cabin fever sets
in. Yes, even in California skaters are antsy to
get back out on rain-slicked street and ramp sur-
faces. Rob Roskopp, Keith Meek and Steve
Caballero fight off board-dom during an intense
story-telling session. For some tall skate tales,
turn to page 54. Photo by Moto.
