A playground for pacification, the Unfair, was constructed by hardcore skaters (Team T.H.C.) in order to keep their skate scene alive.

Everything must come to an end. It's
part of life-you must deal with it and
continue. So it is with skating and the
terrain where the art is performed.
Case in point hills of Tennessee, we have the

potential for the worst of skate scenes. Redneck
cops, illiterate types of all kinds, even the KKK.
Our scene is what we make of it. We have skated
streets, pools, ditches and full-pipes. We have
built halfpipes and street ramps. We have
trespassed, we have run and we have been
caught. We have organized contests and had
band benefits for new wood (Ramp-Aid). We have
built our own terrain without outside coverage
help. But most of all we have worked to improve
our lot in this miserable town. We are not skating
for your benefit, but for our own.

The World's Unfair is an example of the work
the members of T
of Tennessee Half-pipe Company
have done. This spot may soon be gone, but we
know this will not be the end. The lessons learn-
ed by its birth and eventual death have shown
what can be done. Some say we are lucky to have
such a good skate scene. We just know that we
have worked hard to get what we have.
1980. City leaders decide to have the 1982
World's Fair in their great and beautiful city.
1981. Millions of bills are put into construction
in the most run-down section of the downtown
area.
1982. The Fair brings hundreds of thousands
of tourists to our lovely city, along with all their
money. The Fair closes in October and prompt-
ly loses several million dollars. The city blames
it on someone else. Bankers go to jail.
1983. The site is redeveloped except for a
