            MONDAY NIGHT
MAYHEM
On December 1, 1986, the San Fran-
cisco 49er's entertainment division
decided to throw a beach party during
halftime of a nationally televised Monday
Night Football game at Candlestick Park.
Hey, bust your buns! A 3-man expert
demolition team of pro skaters by the
names of Steve Caballero, Rob Roskopp
and Tony Magnusson were contacted to
... FOOTBALL, FANS AND FOUR WHEELS perform before what would be the big-
ABC
RUS
gest crowd to ever witness a display of
modern vertical skating techniques.
When the 49er's office asked for sug-
gestions on how to choreograph such a
stunt the answer was: "A decent half-
pipe would do the trick. "No problem,"
they countered. "we'll put it on a flatbed
trailer and motor it out into the endzone
for 12 minutes."
Freestylers, Cam Scott, Ray Meyer
and Dave Cox were also on the payroll
to add some flatland flash. They were
working tricks amongst the woodys, iron
pumpers and giggling girlies waiting in
the wings.
When the curtain call came all hell
broke loose. Magnusson dropped in
even as the truck was rolling out to the
field. To put the whole scene into
perspective: With the addition of the
trailer, the lips of the ramp leveled out at
15 feet off the stadium floor. Kicked-out
backside airs were being swung back in-
to the ramp at about 19 feet overhead.
Roskopp's board came rocketing out of
the transition once and almost stuck in-
to the turf. Binoculars zeroed in from the
far endzone and upper decks as 80,000
hardcore football fans ooh'ed and ah'ed
in unison with each side-to-side blast..
Down on the ground, Dave Cox broke his
freestyle stick clean in half to the delight
of a close-in throng of unruly spectators.
It was all over before it started,
Magnusson still rocking back and forth
as they motored the whole show off the
field. As for the fans. "Those guys are
nuts, hey, beer here...you want a Polish
dog?"
A view from the
deck makes the goal post
look small by comparison. Caballero steps
lightly with a sure-footed kick out.
Spandex and spunk
helped ward off
the chill factor.

ABC denied the national audience any
angles, but 80,000 football fans got a pro
show. (clockwise from above) Roskopp and

air from across the narrow ramp. Out-of-state

showgirls stuck on the view from below the
ramp. Roskopp fuck legs before touchdown.
