LEAVING TRAINS TOUR 1987
As the majority of skaters these
days are under 17 years old and not
quite full grown, it seems manufac-
turers are making boards that are
more in proportion to the average
skater's size. Madrid Skateboards
has unveiled their new "micro
series," a line of boards for smaller
skaters. The new Bryce Kanights
model is at the top of the Madrid line,
with excellent concave and shape,
front wheel wells and steep kicktail.
This design features blunt edges on
the tail corners to prevent cracks and
wear in the tail area, and is available
in two sizes, regular and micro. The
regular size is 30" long, 9%" wide,
with 3" of nose, 6½" of tail and 15½"
wheel base. The micro is 28" long.
9%" wide, with a 2% nose, a 6%
tail and a 14½" wheel base.
Madrid is aiming these boards at
the street market, which is hot right
now. Madrid boards are light enough
for quick tricks, but strong enough to
put up with extra street abuse. If you
are little, try a micro: if you are big
ger, go with the regular size. For the
whole Madrid line-up write to: PO

I thought Uncle Wiggley had gone
out of business, but I was wrong.
They sent us a board that looks great.
The board is called simply Wiggley
Designs and is made of the same
epoxyiglass combo that UWS made
popular a few years ago. Epoxy/glass
does not readily snap or break in half,
so you heavyweights who continually
break boards should look into epoxy-
glass. When these boards finally
wear out, the concave and tail just
PATROL
kind of flatten down, but only after a
lifetime full of abuse. With a slight
hammerhead shape and steep flip-
tail, the Wiggley Designs board is
more ramp-oriented. Check the stats:
30% long, 10% wide, with a 3½"
nose, a 6%" tail, and a 15%" wheel
base. This board is very light and has
a good flex for landing those big airs.

The next big board is the Naked
Board Model "B" It's not much to
look at, with no graphics and an awful
purple/pink paint job, but that's the
point: save money on the purchase
and do the graphics yourself. Nak-
ed Boards are available through mail
order only and come in five "shapes"
and one uncut blank. The shapes are
all quite basic (no hammerheads or
nightmares). What you get for $27.50
is worth about that, since they show
you the shapes and not the boards.
The model we checked out is heavy
and has hardly any kicktail. The
statistics are: 30% long, 10%" wide,
3" nose, and the worst part of this
board, a 5% tail and 16%" wheel
base. The tail is much too small to ac
comodate a board this size. One
redeeming factor with this blank is
the moderate concave. If you shop
where you can see what you are buy-
ing, you know that boards cost $40.00
because they are worth $40.00. See
'em for yourself (they are available at
some shops) or by writing to: Naked

For your own protection Rector
makes leather gloves. These half-
fingered gloves come with a remov-
able, high-density foam palm pad for
extra impact absorbtion. They come
in three variations: black, black and
blue, and black and red. A strong.
velcro wrist strap and good seams.
show that Rector is making the most
consistent (if not the only) complete
line of safety equipment. Quality is
very important in safety equipment
for obvious reasons. Bailing is never
fun. These guys won't make any
money if you don't slam, but at least
they've made it more enjoyable (or)
less painful). When will the masses
see the new Rector line of knee
pads? Ask 'em at: Rector, PO Box,

I
It may seem that we aren't review-
ing the "new stuff", but we can only
review what companies send. I am
not going to shop around for the
trendiest or latest deck, wheel or
truck. So once again, manufacturers,
please send products for the Product
Patrol, c/o THRASHER Magazine,
PO. Box 884570, S.F., CA
94188-4570.
To all of the people who write letters,
know of many new products, but I
am just like you-if I haven't seen it,
I can't tell you about it.
