Steve Schneer, everybody's favorite lunatic, who will attempt the
Impossible anytime, ignored pain and reigned. His was the best move
of the day...a ho-ho plant to handstand where he walked on his
hands with his board between his legs from one side of the plat-
form to the other. There wasn't anyone who witnessed this who
wasn't standing up and screaming. He almost made it too. Steve's
comment: "Fuck, I didn't make it. Shit."
Another Steve, Salba, rode a Voodoo Pipe and Pool Tool featur-
ing a well-endowed young lady dancing naked in a steaming pot
of Pygmy soup. He threw slides and rides unknown to many of
today's skaters.
Rob Roskopp had a BLASTI sticker on his helmet and that's what
he did, all over the place.
Hosoi flew high airs and, yep, Madonnas. He also swung the
highest McTwists of the day.
Tony Magnusson and Chris Miller both sailed big lein airs, and
Tony Hawk tossed just about every varial variation possible.
Everyone knew the young Hawk would win.
Micke Alba didn't seem to deserve the low scores he got for his
high airs. He even rolled out backwards, changed directions and
rolled in. Malba was "blowin' his own mind, someone said.
Steve Caballero skated with a sure share of smooth moves.
Ken Park pulled his pants down and skated briefly in his briefs.
The crowd liked what they saw and so did the judges. When
everybody came back down to earth and the lunacy of the final
Jam had subsided, the top money winners were announced: 1st
-Hawk, 2nd - Hosoi, 3rd- Caballero, 4th-Malba, 5th - Chris Miller,
6th Lance Mountain, 7th Tony Magnusson, 8th - Ken Park,
9th- Bill Danforth, and 10th Mark Rogowski.
The time came for my friend from far-out to go back. He thanked
me for the hospitality but said next time he would like me to set
him up with some female companionship.
"Keep skating," he said, "We have millions of light years to travel,
but we'll be back, to extend greetings and gifts from far-off galax-
ies, to share our knowledge with you, our brothers, to skate your
pools, to begin...a sequel.
"Skate long and prosper, space brothers."
