BIG SIS CAN'T MISS
About two years ago, my little five-
foot brother (known as The Nerd)
wanted a skateboard for his birthday.
I laughed at the idea but called a guy
I knew who was a good skater and
asked him what to buy. He got his
skateboard.
Last fall, when he came out for a
visit, he was the one laughing. He
went to Germany the summer before
to visit our older brother. He said it
was so boring all he did was skate,
skate, skate. After a month or so of
terrorizing the neighborhood, the
German girls started noticing the
bizarre American. My brother, at age
15, came back a very satisfied, non-
virgin ala German punker girls with
leather spiked underwear
He's now 16, 6' 1" and has a lot of
fun with my friends. I hate to think
what would have happened to him
had he not wanted a skateboard. I ac-
tually like him as a person now.
He's just given me a skate. I don't
know if the motives behind his ac-
tions are hinting at anything. All I
know is that I plan to catch the
essence of whatever skating emits.

LAME NEIGHBORS
Malibu, CA
To the guy who wrote "What A
Burn" in the Sept. issue: don't give
up! Here's our story:
We built a small, beginner halfpipe
in my friend's backyard and one night
somebody torched it just enough so
It wasn't rideable. But we didn't give
up. We rebuilt a bigger ramp but now
the neighbors are bitching because
boards have shot over the fence into
their driveway. They filed a complaint
with the city to try to get it taken down,
but no dice! The building inspector
was impressed with the overall struc-
tural integrity of the ramp and said
that there was probably no way it
would come down. The official city in-
vestigation doesn't start for a couple
weeks, but in the meantime we hung
nets to catch the boards and it works
mint. So don't ever give up. You'll win
one way or another, especially if it's
just some old wanker of a neighbor.

ANGRY DOG
Me and my brother were skatin
down this hill and my brother hit a pile
of sand and went flying into an old
geezer's yard. He scolded us like we
did something wrong. Another guy
complained to my dad because we
skated in front of his house. This guy
told us that skateboarding is illegal
and that he knows the CHIEF
Well, we talked to our neighbor,
who's a cop, and he said the old fart
was lying, Next day, my dog did a
crap on the old man's front step.
Here's to you, Mr. Bates!

WHAT IN TARNATION?
In Elkton, Maryland we just had
our first ramp jam (Peanuts Weekend
Jam) on our kickass halfpipe. It was
great. A few days after the jam we
went to go skate only to find our ramp
had been covered with roofing tar. We
were pissed. I am pointing the finger
at some no-balls skaters from
Delaware. They think we stole wood
from their ramp the City of Newark
lore down. There are some cool
skaters from Newark, (Peanut, Troy,
to name a few), don't get me wrong.
We didn't steal the wood, it isn't the
first time they did this to our ramp. I
just thought the world should know
what kind of dickheads are out there.

One day we were out in the street
skating and my friend was video tap-
ing us. This cop pulled up and started
bitching at me 'cause I was skating
in the street and I started laughing
'cause my friend was taping the
whole thing. The cop turned around
and flipped off the kid holding the
camera and drove away. The next
day we took the tape to Police H.Q.
and showed it to the chief and the cop
is being brought up on charges now.

Just about two weeks ago I was
skating this ramp and slammed, frac-
turing my right arm. The doc says it
will heal in about 3 more weeks. 1
won't be able to skate until then, and
all I've been doing is sitting around
watching TV and reading
THRASHER Mag. Without your mag
I'd be crazy by now. Thanks for the
rad zine. Keep skating.

I would just like to thank you. My
dad just loves and adores the VA
Beach issue, because it's not every-
day that a father sees his pic in a
mag. And better yet, it was a se
quence shot. I mean, most pros don't
even get that. You see, my father is
Sgt. Johnson of the VA Beach Police
Force.
