The majority of products we get are
from California, where manufac
turers and sponsors are many. If you
continue along the sunbelt states of
Arizona, Texas, Florida, etc. you find
more companies and more skaters.
Rarely do we find products being
sent in from the northern areas. What
I am saying is more sun, more
skaters, more products,
Florida's Walker Skateboards has
been around for quite some time,
reflecting owner/skater Bruce
Walker's commitment to the skate
art. The new Walker board line.
features the Mark Lake "Nightmare,"
the Chris Baucom "Rude Boy" the
"Exterminator and the Reggie
Barnes freestyle model. All of these
models were painted with a base cost
of white under their respective
graphics. A variety of other color
choices are available at your local
skate retailer. Also, none of these.
boards have wheel wells.
The Nightmare is 30" long by
10% wide with certainly the most
unique shape around. Designed by
Bruce and veteran pro Mark Lake,
this board has everything, including
hand hooks and foot hooks for sure
fire grip and grab: The 3 inch nose
is suitably blunt for impact resistance
and more upturned than scooped.
This board also features a sleep
kicktail. For a larger board the 15"
wheelbase is excellent for cranking
sharp turns. Applying grip tape and
cutting it out of the notches" prov-
ed to be a minor setback with this
baby. Overall, though, it's a strong
and rigid deck with an even flex.
The Rude Boy, the III edition of
Chris Baucom's model, is another
big board with certain customizing in
the tail. There are two 4" cutaway
areas for, I guess, maximum control.
Interesting graphics of a huge mouth
swallowing up everything in sight.
Since it has basically the same
measurements as the Nightmare, 1
suggest you pick the one most like
you, a Nightmare or a Rude Boy
The Exterminator /Kis the Walker
model most resembling a classic
skateboard, except for the two finger
notches on either side of the nose.
The Exterminator has under 3 of up
turned nose, 15% of wheel base
and is a smaller shape all the way
around at 30 x 10%
The Reggie Barnes model is 27½"
long and 7" wide. This freestyler
features a concave design on the
edges about one inch from the sides,
a 4% upturned nose and a 5½" tail.
All of these boards have smooth,
rounded edges so they don't chip as
easily as square-edged boards.

PATROL
Remember the Flyeway helmet? If
you were around in '79 you saw
everybody wearing them. They were
put out by Kanoa Surf in many trick
color variations and although they
had no ear protection and tended to
fit a bit loose on your head, they look
ed cool. The helmets that were made
a long time ago had straps that tore
out and usually would not stay on.
Well, it turns out somebody bought
the molds and is making the helmets
again. The new helmet is exactly the
same shape, but with a Fastex lock
ing strap and more padding to sweat

OJ and Santa Cruz wheels are two
of the most popular right now
because they make the "vital
durometers 90A, 92A and 97A
Good for street, slides and ramps. I
guess Hosoi wanted to ride his own
wheels so he made the 92A and 97A
Rockots. A little bigger, (61mm) for
moro speed, these gems are also
reversible with center set bearings.
I slid the 92A's and they made cool
slide noises and were smooth and
controllable. Dual conical, no flex
edge, excellent material and good
shapes-Bullets, OJs, now Rockets.

Vision has plunged into the
fashion scene with their 'boardi
graphics shorts and other skate
garments. The long-awaited Vision
Street Wear high top skate shoe is
now available. You can get them in
leather or canvas and choose from
a variety of color combos. Of course,
it you wear tennis shoes most of your
waking hours, you'll know the true
test of any skate boat is in the skating.
The Vision Wear shoe has enough
padding to rate high on the comfort
meter. As for prevention from weari
and tear you'll find extra rubber rein
forcement extending above the firm
but flexible sole. Especially on that
outer edge of your foot that always
wears out first from doing street
ollies. They're priced comparably to
most of the basketball variotios out,
so you can probably afford to try a
